Join Waypoint: Be the Financial Force Behind a Mission that Matters
At Waypoint, we don’t just balance books — we balance impact and integrity. We’re a mission-driven nonprofit dedicated to helping others along the way, and we’re searching for a detail-savvy, team-centered Controller to lead our accounting operations with purpose, precision, and a strategic mindset.
As a key member of our senior leadership team, the Controller doesn’t just oversee numbers — they help shape the financial future of the organization. You’ll bring clarity to complexity, align financial operations with organizational goals, and ensure that our mission is supported by a sound and forward-looking financial strategy.
Your Role:
As the Controller, you’ll oversee all aspects of our accounting department, ensuring fiscal responsibility, compliance, and clarity across the organization. You’ll be turning numbers into insights and systems into solutions, playing a strategic role in guiding financial decisions and long-term planning.
Within the framework of Waypoint’s policies, programs, and budget, you’ll take the lead in:
Managing daily accounting operations including general ledger, AP/AR, payroll, and reconciliations
Producing timely and accurate financial statements and reports for internal and external stakeholders
Driving budget development, monitoring, and forecasting with sharp financial analysis and cross-functional collaboration
Leading internal controls, audits, and compliance with regulatory and funder requirements
Supervising and mentoring accounting staff with empathy, clarity, and accountability
Collaborating with leadership across departments to translate financial data into shared understanding and action
Supporting strategic decision-making through long-term financial planning, scenario modeling, and resource alignment
What You Bring:
Technical expertise in GAAP, fund accounting, and nonprofit financial reporting
Strategic thinking that connects financial management to organizational impact
Leadership — you build teams, not just spreadsheets
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex data to non-financial audiences
A proactive approach to continuous improvement, efficiency, and risk management
Budgeting and financial analysis experience that supports evidence-based decisions
A collaborative spirit — because great things happen when we work together
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or Master’s a plus)
7+ years of accounting experience, with strong preference for nonprofit sector experience
At least 2 years of supervisory experience
Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., Blackbaud NXT, ADP), Excel and O365 including SharePoint
A strong commitment to Waypoint’s mission, values, and vision for impact
