Job Description
The purpose of this role is to perform all duties associated with the preparation and cooking of patient food requirements to ensure a quality meal service which meets the necessary dietary requirements within Qld Health guidelines. The position plays an integral role in the provision of a safe and nutritious food service to patients and is responsible for high-quality food provided in a timely, accurate and consistent manner according to the defined production and delivery standards and patient requirements.
About you
Our ideal candidate will be someone who can carry out the following key accountabilities in accordance with the Metro North Health's values:
Responsibility for food preparation, production and service of hot and cold food for room service. The role works as part of a team to produce room service meals for patients with tasks including: working and maintaining a clean grill, room service line set up, portioning and preparation of menu items and stock control of drawers in cook's area of the room service line. The cook will also be responsible for meal preparation and production for patients who are receiving and alternative food service (i.e. non room service).
Operation of a range of kitchen equipment including ovens, turbochefs, grills, fryers and other equipment.
Effectively communicate with other members of staff to ensure patient's food preferences and nutritional requirements are met
Maintain a clean and hygienic work place in accordance with the Food Safety Management System and other approved procedures and hospital policies. Work safely within the organisations recognised OH&S guidelines, equipment operating instructions and Food Hygiene regulations. Handle, rotate, label and store all products properly and in accordance with established guidelines.
Monitor and record all aspects of the Food Safety Plan and HACCP and ensure adherence. Promptly report equipment, food quality of stock shortage issues to Supervisor/Site Coordinator. Chefs are encouraged to provide feedback on Food Safety related issues and contribute positively to the Food Safety team.
Complies with standard portion sizes, recipes, cooking methods, quality standards and food service policies and procedures consistently.
Despite limited direct contact with end users (patients), maintain excellent patient focus and take pride in your work.
