Job Description
RCC is seeking a Coordinator, Sustainability based in Toronto reporting to the Manager, Sustainability. This position is a 12-month contract with the possibility of extension. This posting is for an existing role that is currently vacant.
About the Role
The Coordinator, Sustainability supports RCC’s Sustainability and Government Relations team in helping members navigate key environmental and regulatory issues, including extended producer responsibility (EPR), single-use plastics, ESG, climate action, and emerging sustainability policy.
This role works closely with RCC member committees and internal teams to coordinate meetings, prepare communications and presentations, respond to government consultations, and develop content for RCC’s online Sustainability Hub. The successful candidate will bring strong organizational skills, research capability, and a passion for sustainability and public policy.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Committee Coordination & Member Support
Organize and coordinate sustainability-related committee meetings, including scheduling, invitations, attendance tracking, and logistics.
Develop meeting agendas in collaboration with the Sustainability Manager and Government Relations team.
Prepare and distribute meeting summaries and post to the RCC Sustainability Member Forum.
Maintain accurate contact lists for committee members and guests.
Support responses to member questions related to regulatory and sustainability issues.
Stakeholder Engagement & Event Promotion
Support outreach efforts to promote the RCC Retail Sustainability Conference and related events.
Assist with member and stakeholder engagement initiatives tied to sustainability programming.
Communications & Content Development
Develop and distribute timely communications regarding consultations, regulatory changes, and sustainability developments.
Collaborate with the Marketing team to create sustainability-related content for events, newsletters, and social media (e.g., Earth Day, Circular Economy Month, environmental awareness campaigns).
Research, Policy Monitoring & Analysis
Research and monitor sustainability developments, emerging regulations in Canada, and global policy trends (with emphasis on the EU and U.S.).
Review and assess environmental regulations for relevance to the retail sector.
Assist in preparing submissions for government consultations, discussion papers, and regulatory correspondence.
Website, Digital Tools & Member Forum
Support content development and updates to RCC’s member-only Sustainability Hub.
Assist in developing digital compliance tools and member resources.
Moderate and maintain content on the RCC Sustainability Member Forum.
WHAT YOU BRING
Post-secondary education in Sustainability, Environmental Studies, Public Policy, Communications, or a related field.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and shifting deadlines.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to translate technical sustainability issues into plain language.
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
Demonstrated passion for sustainability and environmental policy.
Experience with sustainability issues related to EPR, plastics reporting, waste reduction, climate change, and regulatory compliance is a strong asset.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint).
Fluency in English is required; French proficiency is an asset.
