Job Description
We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Cost Management Analyst to join our team in the homebuilding industry. This hybrid role combines cost accounting and purchasing functions to support financial planning, cost management, and procurement processes specifically related to residential construction. The ideal candidate will be responsible for monitoring building material costs, analyzing variances, optimizing procurement strategies, and ensuring financial accuracy in inventory and purchasing decisions.
Key Responsibilities
Cost Accounting Duties:
• Analyze and track costs associated with home construction, materials, labor, and subcontractor expenses.
• Develop and maintain cost accounting systems tailored to homebuilding operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting.
• Conduct variance analysis, including material, labor, and overhead costs specific to residential projects.
• Assist in budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities for new home developments.
• Prepare reports on cost trends, profitability insights, and margin analysis per project.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies.
• Work closely with project managers and finance teams to improve cost efficiencies in home construction.
Purchasing Analysis Duties:
• Analyze purchasing trends and supplier costs for building materials and home components to optimize procurement strategies.
• Evaluate supplier performance, negotiate contracts, and maintain vendor relationships with construction suppliers.
• Monitor inventory levels of key materials (e.g., lumber, concrete, drywall, fixtures) and collaborate with construction teams to ensure timely availability.
• Assist in developing procurement policies and cost-saving initiatives tailored to the homebuilding industry.
• Track key purchasing metrics and generate reports on spending trends across multiple home projects.
• Ensure alignment between purchasing decisions and overall project budgets and financial goals.
Qualifications & Skills
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
• 3+ years of experience in cost accounting and/or procurement analysis, preferably in the homebuilding or construction industry.
• Proficiency in ERP systems, cost accounting software, and Microsoft Excel.
• Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.
• Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
• Effective communication and negotiation skills.
• Knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and cost analysis principles.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience in residential construction, real estate development, or homebuilding.
• CPA, CMA, or relevant certification is a plus.
• Familiarity with supply chain management principles and inventory control for construction materials.
