Background on Waypoints

Waypoints is a registered, non-profit charity that has been operating in Fort McMurray since 1982. Waypoints offers facilities, programs and services for people that have experienced, or are experiencing domestic violence and/or abuse, ****** assault and/or abuse, and homelessness. Waypoints also provides the community with public awareness events, initiatives, and educational programs to increase the prevention of violence, abuse, and homelessness in the Wood Buffalo Region. Waypoints operates Unity House, an Emergency Women and Children's Shelter, the Opportunities for Change Centre, The ****** Trauma Support Services, and The Compass, home of our Second Stage Shelter for women and children in need of secure transitional housing, as well as housing for the homeless and affordable housing.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

Complete and maintain accurate documentation records associated with Unity House for all clients’ files including intakes, discharges, nonresidential clients, crisis calls, staff communication logs and associated paperwork.
Maintain accurate statistical records and complete statistical monthly overview.
Develop case plans in conjunction with the team according to individual client needs.
Make referrals to other agencies/organizations when required.
Communicate any client case concerns and/or in-shelter safety concerns to Shelter Manager.
Become familiarized with provincial legislation in regard to children and family services. Document and refer all cases of suspected child abuse.
Perform regular household chores, including laundry, as outlined on the Chore list.
Orient and train new CIW’s, interns and volunteers as requested by the Shelter Manager.
Provide support and encouragement to clients and orient them to the facility.
Promote Unity House and Unity House Programs to the community where appropriate.
Participate in the preparation of celebrations such as birthdays and holidays.
Perform regular household chores as outlined on the chore list.
SKILLS REQUIRED:

The ability to offer support, empathy and compassion to women and children in crisis.
The ability to offer service from the Feminist perspective (i.e. empowering women to make their own decisions, providing education and supporting women regardless of their decisions and remain objective on controversial issues).
Strong ability to deal with the public, other professionals and clientele in a confident, skillful and sensitive manner, thorough knowledge of Waypoints services and other related organization services.
REQUIREMENTS:

High School Diploma with related experience.
Diploma in Human Services preferred.
Diploma in Child Care/Development preferred.
2 years related experience.
Suicide Prevention Certificate.
Crisis Intervention Certificate (optional).
Valid Class 5 Driver’s license with a clean Driver's Abstract.
RCMP Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check and Intervention Record Check.
Child Intervention Record Check.
First Aid Training Certificate with AED.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS:

Required to work 48 hours per week.
$26.02 per hour (plus an additional $6.40 per hour Cost of Living Allowance to a maximum of $12,480 annually).
The CIW may be required to work alone at times. When a CIW is required to work alone all safety precautions are followed as outlined in the Work Alone Legislation.
Job Types: Full-time, Fixed term contract
