Permanent | Part-time (Min 12 hours/week) | Tourism & Conservation

Join a kaupapa that protects one of Aotearoa’s most treasured taonga – the kiwi. As part of the National Kiwi Hatchery team, you’ll play a key role in delivering world-class guided experiences while upholding the values of Ngāi Tahu, manaakitanga, and exceptional customer care.

We are looking for a Ratoka Kiritaki – Customer Service Guide who is passionate about people, conservation, and creating unforgettable experiences for our manuhiri (visitors).

Te Mahi – What you’ll do

Customer Service

Welcome all manuhiri in a friendly, engaging, professional manner, upholding Ngāi Tahu Tourism values.
Manage admissions, bookings, and customer enquiries accurately and efficiently.
Maintain excellent presentation in customer areas, including light cleaning duties.
Balance tills daily and ensure accurate processing of bookings, vouchers, and customer information.
Build positive relationships with drivers, guides, and industry partners.
Support opening and closing duties, following all security and operational procedures.
Guiding

Deliver enthusiastic, educational, and culturally aligned guided experiences.
Provide clear, informative pre-tour briefings or karakia.
Manage groups effectively, ensuring manuhiri needs are met and safety is prioritised.
Continue developing your knowledge of kiwi conservation, local stories, and our operations.
Maintain a professional, friendly presence and create a fun, welcoming environment.
Retail

Ensure retail spaces are well stocked and visually appealing.
Assist customers with merchandise purchases and use upselling techniques.
Shuttle Driving (if endorsed)

Safely transport manuhiri between Agrodome and the Hatchery.
Complete daily vehicle checks and follow all safety procedures.
Keep shuttle vans clean and presentable inside and out.
Cultural Aspirations & Sustainability

Participate in cultural development, including learning mihi, karakia, and te reo Māori.
Support our commitment to the Tiaki Promise and sustainability goals.
Help promote actions and behaviours that contribute to carbon reduction and kaitiakitanga.
Kā Pūkeka – Experience

Minimum 12 months’ experience in a fast-paced tourism operation or customer-facing role.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Confident IT skills, including booking systems, spreadsheets, and databases.
Kā Tohu Mātauraka – Qualifications

NCEA Level 3 or equivalent.
Full, clean driver licence held for at least two years.
P Endorsement (desirable).
Tourism qualification (desirable).
Strong spoken and written English.
Ō Pūmanawa – Attributes & Competencies

Customer-focused and dedicated to delivering exceptional experiences.
Excellent communication skills and high professional standards.
Detail-oriented with high accuracy.
Ability to multitask, prioritise, and work calmly under pressure.

Eagerness to learn Ngāi Tahu values, tikanga, and te reo Māori.
