Job Description
Auckland Council’s Group Services is looking for a Cybersecurity Analyst (L2) to join our Agile Security Operations team.
As the largest local government in Aotearoa, Auckland Council operates at significant scale and complexity, delivering services that Aucklanders rely on every day, from transport and infrastructure through to community and digital services.
This is a hands on role within our Cyber Security function, focused on protecting Council systems and services 24/7. You will actively monitor, analyse and respond to security threats, while working closely with teams across Council to strengthen our security posture and support both day to day operations and longer term uplift of our security capabilities.
This role suits someone who can step in and contribute from day one within a live security operations environment.
He kōrero mōu: About you
You have proven experience in a SOC or similar security operations environment and are confident monitoring, triaging and responding to security events.
You’ll bring:
Hands on experience with alert monitoring, investigation and escalation
Experience using SIEM and other security tools such as EDR, firewalls and vulnerability scanners
Solid understanding of incident response processes and common attack patterns
Ability to assess risk and prioritise security events in real time
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including clear documentation
Experience with tools such as Splunk, LogRhythm or Microsoft Sentinel is highly desirable.
You are comfortable working in a primarily business hours role that supports security operations, including participation in an on call roster when required. You understand that during significant cyber security incidents, there may be a need for additional support outside of normal hours, and you are willing to contribute when available, while recognising that planned leave and personal wellbeing are respected.

Monitor, triage and respond to security alerts and incidents
Support incident response and escalation activities
Contribute to vulnerability management and reporting
Support BAU security operations and work with teams across Council to maintain and improve security controls and services
Assist with threat hunting and continuous improvement initiatives
Help maintain and improve security monitoring, processes, tooling and documentation
