Job Description
The Dean of Pharmacy provides visionary leadership and strategic direction for all pharmacy-related initiatives, programs, and departments within the institution, fostering a culture of academic excellence, innovation, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Responsibilities include overseeing accreditation compliance, curriculum development, faculty development, experiential education and student success initiatives, while driving enrollment growth and retention efforts in alignment with the strategic plan. The role entails managing budgetary, personnel, and operational aspects of the Pharmacy programs, supporting diversity and inclusion, and enhancing institutional visibility through external partnerships, research collaborations, and community engagement. Serving as a key representative for the School of Pharmacy on senior leadership teams, and sitting on the president’s cabinet, the position collaborates extensively across the College to implement strategic initiatives and promote the institution’s mission and strategic plan.

Major Duties & Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Vice President of Academic Affairs, the Dean of Pharmacy oversees all academic and administrative aspects of the School of Pharmacy.
Specifically, the Dean is responsible for:
Academic Leadership
Provide visionary leadership and strategic direction for all Pharmacy initiatives, departments, and programs within the institution in alignment with the College’s strategic plan.
Build and lead a cohesive and high-performing leadership team for the School of Pharmacy to drive results and implement the College’s strategic plan.
Establish committees and groups, as necessary, to plan and carry out stated administrative policies and strategic goals of the Pharmacy Program and the College.
Foster a culture of academic excellence, innovation, and interdisciplinary collaboration among faculty, staff, and students both within and outside the institution.
Oversee curriculum development and assessment processes to ensure program quality and compliance with accreditation standards.
Develop and execute academic policies and procedures.
Develop and implement strong retention and progression programs to foster student success.
Support faculty development, mentoring, and promotion to enhance teaching effectiveness and scholarly productivity.
Work to resolve student issues as appropriate, and in accordance with applicable laws and established policies and procedures.
Serve as the point of contact for ACPE and AACP and other professional associations or accrediting bodies locally, nationally and internationally.
Engage actively with alumni and develop strategic alliances and partnerships with organizations they serve.
Enrollment Management
Provide strategic vision and direct oversight of admissions to the Doctor of Pharmacy Program
Guide the Pharmacy faculty, relevant committees, staff, students and alumni to provide high quality student recruitment experiences
Work with the Office of Enrollment Management, faculty, staff and students to grow enrollment in all School of Pharmacy programs
Collaborate with the Office of Communications and Marketing to develop marketing materials and implement advertising strategies for the pharmacy programs
Build and maintain relationships with undergraduate institutions to develop a pipeline of new students
Administrative Management
Manage budgetary, personnel, and operational aspects of the School’s programs and initiatives.
Create profit and loss statements for the school to ensure sustainability and growth.
Recruit, hire, and retain qualified faculty and staff to support the institution’s mission and strategic priorities.
Participate in the promotion and tenure process, as described in the faculty handbook
Ensure annual performance evaluations are provided to all direct reports and school employees.
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to promote the integration of Pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences education and research across the institution.
Foster a culture of inclusivity, equity, and diversity within the School’s programs and initiatives.
Analyze internal processes and, in collaboration with Cabinet colleagues, make recommendations for process improvement to drive efficiencies and improve execution.
Develop and deliver formal reports, proformas and presentations to the President, Board of Trustees, Cabinet, internal and external stakeholders, as appropriate.
Collaboration
Develop and implement strategic initiatives to promote collaborative research projects, grant funding opportunities, and industry/corporate partnerships.
Facilitate cross-disciplinary collaboration among the institution’s faculty, staff, students, senior leadership, and external stakeholders by building collaborations on and off-campus.
Work collaboratively with senior leadership and the strategic plan pillar champions and leads to execute key aspects of the strategic plan related to areas of expertise and oversight.
Support and grow interprofessional education efforts.
Collaborate with other ACPHS administrative units, working towards the ACPHS mission and strategic plan.
Represent the School of Pharmacy on the President’s Cabinet, Senior Leadership Team, and other ACPHS committees, as assigned.
External Engagement
Cultivate and maintain partnerships with healthcare organizations, research institutions, government agencies, industry stakeholders and alumni groups to enhance experiential learning opportunities, research collaborations, and funding support.
Represent ACPHS and the School’s programs at professional conferences, community and alumni events, and other external forums to promote the institution’s reputation and visibility.
