About the role | Ko te mahi nei

Here is your opportunity to work directly with Elected Members by providing specialist advice in democratic processes and professional administrative support. Working in Legal and Democratic Services as one of the Democratic Services Advisors you will be part of a team providing end-to-end support and service to Council and its committees, through advisory and professional services.

Being able to build good working relationships across Council would be of benefit as you'll work closely with elected members, ELT and Council Officers. You'll be able to see the big picture as there is an element of reactive work - there are many moving parts that need to be put into place so having an eye for detail would be a given. Being timeframe focused will see you use your natural intuition working to tight deadlines whilst also being agile in your approach and being able to think on your feet!

About you | Ko Koe Tēnei

For this exciting role you will have a strong sense of integrity and confidentiality and be able to think strategically. You will be calm under pressure and be able to provide professional advice on the spot, drawing on your strong communication skills. You will also enjoy reviewing and editing complex documents, so attention to detail is a must, along with a solutions-focused, can-do attitude.

We see this as a unique opportunity where you can transfer your skills to become a specialist in democratic processes. While experience in a similar environment is desirable, if you can bring to the table a keen attitude, a willingness to learn and the core skills needed to thrive in this position, we encourage you to put your name into the mix.

This is your opportunity to play a part in enabling effective democratic decision-making and putting the community at the centre of local decision making by facilitating citizen and community participation.

A relevant tertiary qualification (such as Law, Political Science, Human Services, or Public Policy) is required.

What's in it for you? He aha ngā hua ki a koe?

Want to be involved in shaping your City? Here at the Council we know our strength comes from our people, working together as one team to create results. When you join us, you're getting involved first hand, and contributing to crafting the Christchurch community. You will also benefit from:

Access to training programmes, workshops, and development opportunities
Flexible working arrangements - WFH, adjustable start and finish times, option to purchase extra leave.
Collaboration - exposure to wider areas of the organisation
Benefits - a variety of benefits for Council staff from health schemes to retail discounts.
