Job description
Join us in shaping Seattle’s streets!

At the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT), we don’t just move people—we connect communities, build safer streets, and create a more sustainable city.

With a bold vision for the future, we’re tackling big challenges: making travel safer, cutting carbon emissions, and ensuring reliable, affordable transportation for everyone—no matter who they are or where they live.

Seattle is growing fast, and we’re growing with it. Thanks to a historic voter-approved $1.55 billion investment in transportation in 2024, we’re building sidewalks, fixing bridges, and improving transit connections to keep our city moving.

We’re a team of problem solvers, planners, engineers, communicators, and field crews—bringing purpose-driven work to life. Now, we need passionate, innovative talent like you. Let’s build a Seattle that works for everyone—together!

This position works with staff across the agency to manage the development and review of recommendations regarding public policy, stakeholder engagement, and other priority initiatives related to delivering on SDOT's vision and mission. Cultivate a culture of professionalism and continuous improvement throughout the organization.
• Shape and support the development of priority projects, programs, and policies; apply a strategic lens to proposals, and work with subject matter experts to develop briefing materials.
• Build trusting relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels in order to identify emerging issues and develop solutions.
• Advocate for the organization’s position in interactions with stakeholders, including assessing and mitigating risks in stakeholder relationships, ensuring efficient resolution of issues.
• Identify and lead initiatives to enhance stakeholder engagement, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities.
• Ensure that major stakeholder interaction is proactive and thoughtful, including developing background materials and briefing the Chief of Staff.
• Scope, plan, and execute multiple, often quick-turnaround projects with minimal outside assistance, including identifying risks and tracking issues to completion.
• Collaborate with senior leadership and colleagues to support one another's work.
• Contribute to agency-wide planning, policy development, and problem-solving.
• Improve workflows, implement strategic processes, and oversee the daily operations of the Director’s Office.
• Facilitate Executive Leadership Team meetings, including agenda preparation, follow-ups and task tracking.
• Support SDOT's commitments to centering equity and promoting diversity and social justice.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Five (5)+ years of professional experience in transportation, transit, urban planning or related field.
• Three (3)+ years of experience in a government or related setting.
