The Ministry of the Solicitor General, Ontario Provincial Police, and the Commander, North West Region is seeking a qualified individual to join our Detachment. In this exciting, rewarding and challenging opportunity, you will provide administrative, clerical and court support to Detachment personnel in the co-ordination and processing of administrative services.

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) North West Region (NWR) serves an area of 478,606 square kilometers. Our jurisdiction extends from the eastern border of Manitoba to the northern border of the State of Minnesota, to Hudson's Bay in the north and White River to the east. The region includes three districts (Kenora, Rainy River and Thunder Bay) and is divided between eastern and central time zones.

Kenora is located in the south western corner of North West Region. Our detachment consists of 5 civilian members, 82 of uniformed officers and 12 of auxiliary volunteers. Within the City of Kenora, you can also find regional hubs for Forensic Identification Services, In Service Training and the Canine Unit. Our detachment also hosts specialized crime teams including Regional Support Services and Major Crime Investigative Team.

You are a self-starter, a collaborative team-builder, and confident in your capabilities to provide proactive client service and administrative support to a diverse workforce within the Ministry of the Solicitor General and the Ontario Provincial Police. We are seeking qualified individuals to join our community detachment teams.

Note: This is an operational position requiring a high level of engagement with detachment teams and the community. The successful applicant will be required to report to the detachment to perform their duties in accordance with Ontario Public Service workplace policies.

About the job
Respond to inquiries from the public over phone and/or in person
Monitor and maintain computerized database programs
Prepare a variety of materials including correspondence, reports, spreadsheets, minutes and presentation
Prepare human resources documents such as attendance and payroll
Compiles and maintains confidential records and materials (e.g. personnel files, salaries, confidential correspondence)
Provide financial administrative support by processing invoices and expense claims
Collects, compiles and distributes statistics/data as required at the detachment
Provides a range of administrative support as the scheduling and coordination of meetings including travel arrangements, arranging for special events; preparing background materials; transcribing and taking minutes at offsite meetings
Support and implement new/revised administrative procedures to improve office operations and updates/maintains office procedures manuals.

Ability to pass an OPP background/ security investigation.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge and ability to apply and develop administrative policies, procedures, methods, systems and processes
Knowledge and ability to provide a variety of administrative support services, including file management, purchasing, invoices/expense claims, and the preparation of human resources documents
Ability to independently apply problem-solving and analytical skills
Ability to manage your workload and set priorities
Ability to apply attention to detail and math skills to check and verify information and provide administrative financial support such as financial accounts payable/receivable and expenses
Communication and interpersonal skills to respond to inquiries, prepare standard correspondence and work in a team environment
Computer skills including experience with software programs such as word processing, database, spreadsheet, presentation and organization chart applications, for example: Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, PeopleSoft or similar human resource management systems
Ability to operate and maintenance of office equipment and supply inventory
