At Alto, we are re-imagining passenger rail service on behalf of the Government of Canada! Our goal is to create a new sustainable train network that that will run faster, more frequently and more reliably between Toronto and Québec City. The Alto High Speed Rail project is Canada's largest infrastructure project in generations.

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director to oversee the Digital integration and Innovation activities. Please note that the candidate may be based in one of our 3 offices: Montreal, Ottawa and Toronto.

The role

The Director, Digital Integration & Innovation plays a crucial role in the planning, design, operations, and maintenance of rail infrastructures and assets for the Alto High Speed Rail project. They are responsible for overseeing all Digital integration and innovation activities related to these facilities. Reporting to the Vice President, Operations and Maintenance, the ideal candidate will have a strong background in Digital integration and innovation, exceptional leadership abilities, and a proven track record of managing and delivering successful projects.

The responsibilities

Collaborate with the Private Development Partner to develop comprehensive plans for Digital integration and innovation that align with project timelines and objectives.
Lead the selection of technology solutions for the project, ensuring alignment with project objectives and requirements.
Oversee the integration of various digital technologies such as digital twins, IoT (Internet of Things), AI-driven analytics, cybersecurity measures, operational technology, and communication systems into the rail infrastructure and operations.
Manage the integration of systems with the PDP, fostering collaboration and efficiency across various IT platforms.
Oversee cybersecurity measures to safeguard data and information integrity, implementing best practices and protocols to mitigate risks effectively, following the corporate alignment of the Vice President, Information Technology.
Drive innovation initiatives to enhance project efficiency and effectiveness through the adoption of emerging technologies and digital solutions.
Serve as the primary point of contact for the Private Development Partner regarding Digital integration and innovation.
Collaborate with the Private Development Partner, government agencies, community stakeholders, and external partners to address concerns, resolve issues, and foster positive relationships throughout the project lifecycle.
Prepare progress reports, technical documentation, and presentations for project stakeholders, including executive leadership, investors, and regulatory authorities.
This role requires a strong background in digital technology, innovation management, project management, and stakeholder engagement within the context of high-speed rail infrastructure.

The requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in engineering, computer science, information technology, or a related field is typically required. Additional certifications or training in project management, digital technologies, or rail transportation is a plus.
Minimum 10 years of experience in digital technologies, such as IoT (Internet of Things), AI (Artificial Intelligence), data analytics, cybersecurity, and cloud computing. Familiarity with railway signaling systems, communications networks, and software development is also beneficial.
Extensive experience in transportation or rail industry, particularly in roles related to digital transformation, innovation, or technology integration. Knowledge of rail operations and regulatory requirements is desirable.
Proven leadership abilities to manage a team responsible for Digital integration and innovation. Effective communication skills are crucial for coordinating with the Private Development Partner, internal teams, and stakeholders.
Being fluent in both Canadian official languages is desirable.
Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with a focus on innovation, creativity, and continuous improvement.
Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
