Job Title: Finance & Accounting Manager
Reports To: Executive Director
Position Summary
The Director of Finance & Accounting is a dual role position, leading the Fund’s accounting operations and financial management functions. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and effective internal controls, while also providing hands-on financial analysis and insight to support forecasting, trend analysis, contribution rate setting, plan design strategy, and long-term Fund sustainability. The Director of Finance & Accounting works closely with the Executive Director to analyze financial and healthcare claims data and guide decision-making related to benefits and funding strategies.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting Operations
Oversee the daily operations of the accounting department, including general ledger maintenance, payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
Ensure timely and accurate preparation of monthly financial statements.
Oversee internal and external audits, including the preparation of audited financial statements.
Develop, implement, and monitor internal controls and accounting policies to ensure compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements.
Supervise and mentor small accounting team, providing oversight and professional development.
Finance & Analysis
Coordinate the preparation of the Fund’s annual budget and ongoing forecasts.
Analyze financial and claims data from TPAs to assess trends, identify cost-saving opportunities, and support plan design decisions.
Develop and maintain models for contribution rate setting and financial projections.
Collaborate with actuaries, consultants, and TPAs to provide financial insight and evaluate plan modifications, as needed.
Present financial reports and analysis to the Executive Director and Board of Trustees.
Monitor cash flow and assist in the management of investment reporting and fund reserves.
Qualifications
CMA or CPA required.
Minimum of 8 years of accounting and finance experience, including supervisory responsibilities.
Strong data analysis and financial modeling skills.
Experience with Taft-Hartley funds, self-funded health plans, or healthcare finance highly desirable.
Underwriting or actuarial experience is a plus.
Proficiency with accounting software and Excel; data visualization tools are a plus.
Clear and effective communicator, able to present complex data to a non-technical audience.
Leadership skills with a focus on team collaboration and professional development.
