Job Description
Reporting to the CEO, the Director of Fund Development is a key member of the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and is responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive fundraising strategy that supports the long-term financial sustainability and mission of Accessible Housing. This includes oversight of donor cultivation and stewardship, major gifts, grants, sponsorships, and fundraising campaigns.
The successful candidate will bring creativity, integrity, and a deep commitment to social impact. They will steward relationships with individual and institutional donors, build strong internal and external partnerships, and help position Accessible Housing as a trusted leader and charity of choice in the housing and accessibility sector.
Duties & Responsibilities
Fundraising Strategy & Execution
Lead the design, planning, and implementation of the organization’s fund development strategy, aligned with strategic priorities.
Cultivate and steward relationships with donors, corporate partners, foundations, and other funding bodies.
Develop and maintain a pipeline of prospective donors and funders, ensuring an effective moves management system is in place.
Oversee proposal development, grant writing, and reporting to ensure compliance with funding requirements and organizational goals.
Drive strategies to increase unrestricted funding and sustainable revenue growth.
Donor Stewardship & Reporting
Manage donor relations and retention, ensuring high standards of communication, recognition, and engagement.
Work with the CEO and Advocacy and Advancement Committee of the Board to advance philanthropic efforts.
Track and report on fundraising performance, providing insight and data to guide decision-making and planning.
Collaboration & Leadership
Partner with ELT members to support fundraising initiatives across the organization.
Collaborate closely with Director of Marketing regarding internal and external events and communications.
Provide guidance and support for staff and Board involvement in fundraising.
Actively contribute to organizational planning processes and culture-building initiatives.
Act as organizational spokesperson when required or as directed by the CEO
Grants & Sponsorships
Identify new grant opportunities and manage the submission of timely, compelling proposals.
Track deliverables and reporting for all grants and sponsorships.
Support strategic alignment of funding priorities with program delivery and community needs.
Events & Campaigns
Oversee the planning and execution of targeted fundraising events and campaigns.
Collaborate with internal teams and volunteers to ensure successful donor experiences and stewardship opportunities.
Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
Minimum 5–7 years of senior leadership experience in fundraising within the non-profit sector.
Demonstrated success in securing major gifts, managing donor portfolios, and meeting or exceeding fundraising targets.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; adept at adapting messages to various audiences.
Proficient in CRM software and data-driven donor management.
Strong interpersonal, relationship-building, and organizational skills.
CFRE designation is considered an asset.
