Majesty Wellbeing Centre is a registered NDIS provider based in Wakerley, Brisbane, dedicated to delivering holistic, person-centred disability support services to individuals from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds. Our organisation specialises in supporting participants with roots in Sub-Saharan African communities, including but not limited to South Sudanese, Congolese, Ugandan, Nigerian, Ethiopian, Eritrean, Somali, and Kenyan communities. Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced, passionate, and culturally attuned Disability Support Manager to lead our service delivery operations. This is a senior leadership position requiring a deep professional understanding of NDIS systems, combined with authentic intercultural competency, particularly in relation to African diaspora communities residing in Queensland. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a team of support workers, overseeing participant plan management, and ensuring our organisation meets its regulatory and ethical obligations under the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission framework.

Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience
Reports To: Chief Executive Officer / Director of Operations
Direct Reports: NDIS Support Workers, Case Coordinators, Cultural Liaison Officers
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Service Management
Lead, manage, and mentor a multidisciplinary team of support workers and coordinators, fostering a culturally safe and inclusive workplace culture.
Oversee the development, implementation, and review of individualised support plans in alignment with participants' NDIS goals, cultural values, and community expectations.
Ensure organisational compliance with the NDIS Practice Standards, the NDIS Code of Conduct, and relevant Queensland legislative requirements.
Manage risk, incident reporting, and quality assurance processes in accordance with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission guidelines.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives, identifying gaps in service delivery and implementing evidence-based solutions.
Cultural Competency & Community Engagement
Serve as the primary cultural liaison between Majesty Wellbeing Centre and African diaspora communities across Greater Brisbane.
Facilitate culturally informed intake processes, assessments, and care planning that account for collectivist family structures, traditional healing practices, religious observance, and migration trauma.
Develop and maintain trusted relationships with African community leaders, elders, faith organisations, settlement services, and multicultural health networks.
Provide guidance and training to staff on culturally responsive practices, including navigating communication barriers, interpreting family decision-making dynamics, and understanding the socio-political contexts of participants' countries of origin.
Advocate for participants from African backgrounds within the broader NDIS system, including at plan reviews, LAC meetings, and NDIA interactions.
Administration & Compliance
Oversee accurate and timely documentation of all service agreements, progress notes, incident reports, and NDIS claiming through the NDIS portal.
Manage rostering, staffing allocations, and workforce planning to ensure continuity of high-quality support.
Liaise with the NDIA, Local Area Coordinators (LACs), Support Coordinators, allied health professionals, and other stakeholders.
Prepare operational reports, funding acquittals, and budget expenditure summaries for the executive team.
Ensure all staff maintain current NDIS Worker Screening Clearances, mandatory training requirements, and professional development obligations.
Selection Criteria
Essential Requirements
A Bachelor's degree or higher in Social Work, Disability Studies, Community Services, Nursing, Psychology, Public Health, or a closely related discipline from a recognised Australian or internationally accredited institution.
Minimum two (2) years of demonstrated experience in disability support services, NDIS plan management, or a related human services field, with at least two (2) years in a formal management or supervisory role.
Extensive and demonstrable cultural competency working with Sub-Saharan African communities, including a thorough understanding of the social, cultural, linguistic, and historical factors that shape their engagement with health and disability services in Australia.
Proficiency in one or more African languages spoken by communities in the Greater Brisbane region such as Dinka, Nuer, Somali, Amharic, Yoruba, Hausa, Swahili, Lingala, Kinyarwanda, or French (as a lingua franca of Central and West African communities) is highly desirable and will be given significant weight in the selection process.
Deep knowledge of the NDIS Act 2013, NDIS Practice Standards, NDIS Code of Conduct, the Disability Discrimination Act 1992, and the National Disability Strategy.
Proven experience navigating the intersection of cultural identity, migration experience, and disability including working with participants who have experienced refugee trauma, forced displacement, or culturally specific stigmas around disability.
Demonstrated ability to engage and build trusted relationships with community elders, faith leaders, and informal community support networks common in African diaspora communities.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex NDIS terminology into accessible language for participants and families with varying levels of English proficiency.
Current Queensland Working with Children Check (Blue Card) and NDIS Worker Screening Clearance, or the ability to obtain prior to commencement.
Current Queensland Driver's Licence and access to a reliable vehicle for community engagement and outreach activities.
Highly Desirable Attributes
Personal lived experience as a member of an African diaspora community in Australia, or sustained immersive professional engagement with African communities over a significant period.
Experience supporting participants with complex support needs arising from the interaction of disability, cultural identity, and settlement challenges.
Familiarity with culturally adapted service frameworks such as the Cultural Responsiveness Framework (DFFH Victoria) or the Queensland Multicultural Policy.
Postgraduate qualifications in Disability, Public Health, Leadership, or Intercultural Studies will be viewed favourably.
Understanding of trauma-informed practice and its specific application within African refugee and migrant communities.
