Who are we?
Wintringham is a specialist not-for-profit organisation providing an extensive range of aged care, housing and related support services to men and women aged 50-plus who have been homeless or at risk of homelessness. We employ over 1000 staff and operate from multiple offices across Melbourne and regional Victoria.
Our dedicated NDIS team is passionate about helping Wintringham Housing participants living with a disability and supported by an NDIS plan to live independently and confidently. We support clients with daily tasks, personal care when needed, and help them build skills, strengthen community connections, and access the services they need.
Your new role
An opportunity is available for a proactive and experienced Disability Support Worker to support NDIS participants with daily living tasks, capacity building, community engagement, and personal care as needed. This casual role is ideal for candidates with a background in Disability Services, Individual Support, or Aged/Home Care, and relevant qualifications. Based at our Patricia Larkin House in Bendigo(VIC), this position offers a meaningful opportunity to make a positive impact through a person-centred, strengths-based approach.
Your duties and responsibilities and duties include:
Supporting participants to develop daily living skills such as cooking, budgeting, and shopping through coaching and confidence-building
Supporting participants to build confidence and skills to develop social networks and connections
Assisting participants to access appropriate leisure options in partnership with recreation workers and other supports
Accompanying participants on outings and provide direct care and support as needed
Delivering individualised support to people with psychosocial and other disabilities, promoting skill development and meaningful participation in chosen activities
Applying a strengths-based, person-centred, recovery-oriented approach in all interactions
Using a trauma-informed practice framework when supporting people with complex needs
We are looking for candidates with the following:
Minimum: Certificate III in Disability OR Individual Support, Aged or Home Care
First Aid Certificate – Level 2
Current driver’s license and own reliable car with comprehensive insurance, (suitable for transporting clients)
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage effectively with clients, colleagues, and external stakeholders
Demonstrated experience and understanding of the needs of people with disability and housing related vulnerabilities
A flexible and solution-focused approach to problem solving
Ability to work autonomously, use initiative and be self-motivated
Ability to be patient, creative and innovative
Understanding of disability-related legislation, person-centred planning principles, and best practices for supporting individuals with complex needs
Competence in delivering personal care
Understanding of public and community housing settings and the challenges experienced by people with a disability in these types of accommodation
Experience in working with vulnerable older persons
