Job Summary:
Nursery Cook – Pescatarian & Plant-Based Setting
We are looking for a skilled and passionate Cook to join our friendly and dedicated nursery team. We are a pescatarian nursery, providing only Quorn or plant-based meals freshly prepared on-site each day. As our Nursery Cook, you will play a vital role in supporting the health and development of children aged three months to five years by preparing delicious, nutritious, and age-appropriate meals.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare and cook seasonal, traditional ‘home-style’ meals tailored for young children, including weaning-friendly options.
Maintain the highest standards of kitchen hygiene, ensuring full compliance with Environmental Health regulations and legislation.
Develop nutritional, balanced, and exciting menus in collaboration with the Nursery Manager and Managing Director.
Lead on food hygiene inspections, ensuring we maintain our 5-star food hygiene rating.
Completeinventory management, including stock rotation, ordering, and record keeping.
Ensure a clean, organised, and welcoming kitchen environment at all times.
Follow all kitchen policies and procedures and maintain accurate food safety and hygiene documentation.
Present asmart and professional appearance.
About You:
We are looking for someone who:
Has a genuine passion for cooking, especially for children.
Shows initiative, works well under pressure, and has strong time management and organisational skills.
Understands children’s dietary needs and food allergies, with a flexible approach to meal preparation.
Can implement and maintain high levels of cleanliness, sanitation, and foodhygiene practices.
Has good administrative skills for planning, ordering, and documentation.
Requirements:
A Food Hygiene Certificate is desirable. If not already held, training will be provided.
Previous experience working in a kitchen or food preparation environment is preferred.
Knowledge of basic cooking techniques and food safety regulations.
Ability to thrive in a busy, fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
Strong teamwork and communication skills.
This role is subject to a DBS check and completion of Child Protection and Safeguarding training, as part of our commitment to safeguarding children.

Job Type: Permanent
Pay: From £12.21 per hour
Expected hours: 27.5 per week
