The mission of the DoD Engagement Management team is to "Deliver with Excellence: PLAN, EXECUTE, CONTROL, BUDGET, STAFF, and COMMUNICATE with Excellence." We're seeking a highly skilled and versatile Senior Engagement Manager to lead the delivery of complex cloud solution projects that make a real difference for our Department of Defense customers.

What You'll Do

Project Leadership & Delivery

• Lead technical functional teams composed of AWS, customer, and partner members

• Apply Engagement Manager best practices for delivery quality, engagement security, and sales-to-delivery transitions

• Facilitate release planning to align customer outcomes, set priorities, build roadmaps, identify risks, and organize workstreams

• Validate scope to create engagement schedules, financials, and outcomes consistent with contracts

• Establish and enforce AWS ProServe Security Standards and Quality Mechanisms (e.g., Model Change Management)

Stakeholder Management & Communication

• Develop understanding of engagement stakeholders and build effective relationships

• Discuss conditions of acceptance, contractual scope, financials, and timelines

• Leverage stakeholder relationships to drive timely decisions

• Escalate engagement issues effectively to internal and external stakeholders

• Support workshops and facilitate team collaboration

Technical Expertise & Solution Delivery

• Develop and deliver cloud strategies that establish technical capabilities driving business outcomes

• Define and clarify business and technical requirements, mapping them to customer objectives

• Employ multiple frameworks (Waterfall, Agile, Scaled Agile, ITIL, CAF, WAF) and product management principles

• Explain AWS products and services to help customers define and implement solutions

• Participate in architectural reviews and identify when principal reviews are required

• Validate that technical solutions meet business objectives and engagement goals

Risk Management & Problem Solving

• Help teams foresee and manage risks and issues

• Work to resolve root causes of difficult customer or internal problems

• Ensure solutions are consistent with framework recommendations

• Make appropriate data-driven decisions and communicate these to leadership and customers

Team Development & Operations

• Identify and resolve resourcing needs and delivery gaps

• Help onboard team members and establish team ways of working

• Hold team accountable for operational excellence (timesheets, reports, status updates)

• Help recruit and participate in the interview process

• Mentor and develop others to employ AWS engagement delivery best practices

• Train new teammates on engagement delivery and customer business outcomes

Process Improvement & Innovation

• Own engagement documentation

• Lead continuous improvement activities

• Identify gaps in AWS offerings and processes

• Create and enhance assets to improve efficiency and promote adoption

• Contribute to new capabilities and mechanisms (tools, delivery kits, best practices)

• Improve team efficiency and cross-team processes through automation

Professional Development

Key job responsibilities
• Ambiguity: Develop and deliver cloud delivery strategy or vision for difficult engagements. Deliver independently while seeking direction when needed.
• Scope & Influence: Influence internal teams (service support, sales, business development) and external teams (customers, vendors, partners). Begin mentoring team members.
• Execution: Lead engagement teams with tactical focus, learning strategic approaches. Identify and deliver business and technical outcomes. Create outcomes consistent with contract constraints (schedule, scope, financials). Ensure solutions align with frameworks and EM best practices. Facilitate teams to foresee and manage risks and issues. Make trade-off decisions and implement action and mitigation plans. Develop engagement stakeholder analyses. Own engagement quality, security, operational excellence, and documentation
• Communication: Bring together right internal and external stakeholders. Lead effective meetings and drive interactions, discussion, and alignment. Articulate risks/issues with mitigation plans and impact to customer outcomes. Articulate requirements, outcomes, and acceptance criteria. Interpret and critically evaluate documentation. Ensure clear, concise contributions to internal and engagement documentation.
• Impact: Impact peers within team/practice to improve delivery quality. Impact quality and completion of engagement outcomes and team metrics.
• Technical: Lead difficult technical engagements. Analyze and document conditions of acceptance. Validate technical solutions are consistent with frameworks.
• Process Improvement: Improve team process efficiency. Contribute to and hold team accountable for operational excellence. Automate routine processes.

A day in the life

You lead difficult cloud projects for Department of Defense customers—modernization programs, classified system migrations, and AI/ML capabilities for defense operations. You're leading daily standups, sprint planning sessions, and backlog grooming with your delivery teams. You facilitate technical exchange meetings, sprint reviews, and demonstrations for stakeholders. You're troubleshooting technical issues, aligning military IT leaders and program managers who navigate strict security requirements, and conducting long-range planning sessions. You coordinate AWS specialists, solutions architects, and partner companies while advocating for project personnel and resources. You control project budgets, communicate with stakeholders and customers, and identify and mitigate risks constantly. You mentor other engagement managers, turn around distressed projects, and establish best practices.

Basic Qualifications
• 3+ years of cloud computing experience
• Experience in project management of technical programs
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, a related field, or equivalent experience
• 1+ year of hands-on experience in Agile and implementation of project management tool sets (Confluence, Jira, RallyDev, VersionOne, Taiga, etc.) and source code management products.
• Current, active US Government Security Clearance of Top Secret or above

Preferred Qualifications
• 1+ years of professional work experience, or experience with AWS services or other cloud offerings
• Project Management Professional (PMP) and/or AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate
• Strong understanding of AWS services, architectures, and best practices
• Experience applying AWS frameworks like Well-Architected and Cloud Adoption Framework
• Proven ability to establish technical credibility with engineering teams and senior technical decision-makers

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
