MidCoast Council's Natural Systems department is responsible for safeguarding our region's natural environment. This includes partnering with other organisations, landholders and community groups to protect and preserve our landscape and catchments, coastal areas, endangered ecological communities and threatened species. This department also manages weeds and biosecurity, and monitors and reports on the condition of our waterways and the environment.

The role

Are you an environmental professional looking to make an impact on the future for the community you live in? We have an opportunity for a 12-month fixed term Environmental Officer Catchment and Estuary. This position will work closely with our Catchment Management and Water Quality and Estuary teams to support the implementation of projects and initiatives for catchments, estuaries, and water quality assessments.

This is a multi-faceted role within a dynamic, experienced team of environmental professionals. Your project management experience, communication skills, and ability to engage and influence a range of stakeholders will be integral in improving environmental outcomes for our region.

The major responsibilities of the role include:

Coordination, development and implementation of catchment strategies by engaging with residents and other stakeholders on ecological matters, water quality improvement and catchment management issues.
Undertake water quality assessment of development proposals.
Contribute to continuous improvement in erosion and sediment control practices, procedures and polices impacting waterway health.
Contribute to waterway and catchment health condition assessment and reporting processes.
Build Council, community and industry capacity focusing on catchment and estuary management, riparian management, stormwater quality and erosion and sediment control through environmental education and engagement.
What you'll bring

Degree level qualifications in Natural Resources, Environmental Science or equivalent field
Demonstrated experience in the preparation, review and implementation of strategies, plans and policies for catchment management, urban and rural water quality management and aquatic ecosystem health.
Previous experience in environmental assessment relating to water quality.
Knowledge of catchment and estuary issues, water sensitive urban design, erosion and sediment control practices and stormwater assessment tools.
Salary: Starting salary $+1,806 p.a. plus superannuation (negotiable based on skills and experience).

Location: This position will be based at our Administration Centre in Yalawanyi Ganya at 2 Biripi Way, Taree. You may also be required to be based from other Council sites across the MidCoast Council region.

Tenure: 12 month fixed term. 35 hours per week.
