We have a great opportunity for a Financial Accountant in Sydney, NSW!
You will play a key role in the recording of various financial transactions Synod Mission services, Major Funds and for the Shared Service entities and clients. Your key contributions are needed at month end in closing out the entities and reconciling all balance sheet items. In addition, this role supports the banking instructions for various funds and is crucial in managing cashflow.
This role sits within the Financial Accounting team and reports into the Financial Accounting Manager.If you have a strong focus on technical compliance, service delivery and collaboration with both internal and external stakeholders we would love to hear from you!
Within this role, you will:
Maintain accurate financial records for designated Synod Mission Services and Shared Services entities by managing or processing all journals required, including regular entries and recording of inter-entity transactions;
Manage preparation and submission of BAS, FBT and PAYG for designated Synod Mission Services and Shared Service entities on a timely basis;
Process various Synod Mission Services entities’, funds and shared service clients Financial Accounting transactions and perform balance sheet reconciliations in line with the month end timetable;
Provide insights into the balance sheet, P&L and Cash flow positions for relevant entities or funds.
Recommend actions upon maturity of funds in UFS based on interest rates and cashflow requirements.
Prepare monthly bank reconciliations and investigate and close out reconciling items;
Maintain and reconcile fixed asset register,
Process payroll journals for the relevant entity or fund;
Assist with Synod Staff, UTC Faculty allowances and Minister Expense accounts as required and reconcile balances to ensure payments of allowances are in line with UCA policies;
Monitor merchant facility transactions
Assist with finance related internal or external audit queries
Assist with the preparation of Annual Financial Statements and annual audit for Synod Shares Services entities;
Engage in the continuous improvement of systems, documentation of policies and processes and recording as required;
Ideally you will have:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or Business Administration;
Professional qualifications such as CPA Australia accredited;
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar financial accounting role demonstrating a strong understanding of accounting concepts and regulations;
Proven capacity to build and grow partnerships and work collaboratively with others to meet organisational objectives and show ability through change;
Great oral and written communication and interpersonal skills including the confidence to approach and deal with sensitive issues and relationships;
Great problem solving and decision-making skills with the ability to research, monitor and synthesise information, identify risks and develop strategies to produce results;
The capacity to achieve challenging outcomes, successfully managing competing priorities with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines;
Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality of written materials, information and issues associated with the NSW/ACT Synod;
High computer literacy skills;
Structured and methodical ways of working to ensure accuracy is maintained;
A preparedness to work within the polity and ethos of the Uniting Church in Australia; and
