First Aid & CPR Instructor (Part-Time, Contract)
YMCA Calgary
Start Date: Immediately
End Date: January 31st, 2026 (with possibility of annual extension)
Salary: $20.80/hour - $26.00/hour

What qualifications are we looking for?

The successful candidates will have the following;

Canadian Red Cross Intermediate First Aid & CPR Instructor Certification;

Strong administrative and organizational skills;

Duty Manager experience considered an asset;

Teaching experience considered an asset;

Health & Safety background considered an asset;

Current Standard First Aid with CPR-C certificated within the last 12 months from an approved AB OHS provider. Asset if certification is issued by one of the following five Canadian organizations: Canadian Red Cross, Heart and Stroke Foundation, Lifesaving Society, St John's Ambulance and/or Canadian Ski Patrol.

Evidence of a clear Police Information Check including a Vulnerable Sector Search;

Three professional references required.

By design the First Aid & CPR Instructor position is a physically demanding position. Candidates should be able to lift and twist with up to 30 lbs. Candidates will be required to travel for their position on a regular basis and will be required to set up and take down tables, chairs, and all required course material and equipment to and from the classroom or teaching space.
What does this role look like at YMCA Calgary?

Report directly to the Senior Health and Safety Manager the Canadian Red Cross First Aid Instructor will:

Act as an Association Instructor for Standard First Aid and CPR, teaching up to 7 recertification courses and 1 original course each month. CPR courses run for 4 hours, Standard First Aid recertification runs for 8 hours and Standard First Aid original courses run for 16 hours with additional set up and take down time.

Teach CPR and Standard First Aid courses

Teach in the evenings (after 4 pm) and weekends (between +am – 4pm)

Have the ability to travel and teach city wide, including but not limited to, Shawnessy YMCA, South Health Campus YMCA, Brookfield Residential YMCA, Quarry Park Child Development Centre, Remington YMCA, Saddletowne YMCA, Melcor YMCA at Crowfoot and Shane Homes YMCA.

Attend three, three-hour DM in-services each year. (I’d like to keep this in but I imagine it’s budget dependant)

Complete the administration processes for each class, including printing off course rosters, cross referencing rosters with sign in sheets, tracking no-shows, submitting hard and electronic copies to the Red Cross and maintaining and storing records.
