General Description:

The Fiscal Director is a key leadership position within Concilio’s Finance Department, responsible for managing day-to-day fiscal operations and ensuring excellence in financial stewardship, reporting, compliance, and departmental workflow. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Fiscal Director leads a high-performing team, including two Fiscal Managers, a Staff Accountant, and a Fiscal Clerk, and ensures accurate, timely financial processing and reporting to support the organization's $19 million budget.

This role is responsible for the implementation of financial policies, enhancement of internal controls, and oversight of accounting procedures to ensure alignment with organizational goals, and all applicable regulations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Department Leadership & Supervision

Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of two Fiscal Managers, a Staff Accountant, and a Fiscal Clerk, ensuring a culture of high performance, accountability, and professional growth.
Provide ongoing training, coaching, and performance evaluations.
Ensure strong collaboration and communication across Finance and other departments.
Accounting Operations Oversight

Oversee day-to-day accounting functions including accounts payable/receivable, general ledger management, bank reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end and year-end close.
Ensure accurate processing of payroll, bonuses, and related benefits administration through Paycom, in collaboration with HR.
Manage RAMP (corporate expense platform) and American Express expenses, ensuring compliance with policy and timely reconciliation.
Maintain the chart of accounts and prepare audit-ready financial records.
Financial Reporting & Analysis

Produce timely, accurate financial reports for internal leadership and external stakeholders, including monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.
Support budget managers with ongoing financial analyses, including grant-specific allocations and program spending.
Collaborate with the CFO to deliver clear, actionable financial reporting that supports organizational decision-making.
Compliance & Internal Controls

Ensure compliance with IRS regulations (Form 990), grant and contract requirements, and other applicable laws.
Maintain, document, and enhance internal controls to mitigate financial risks, fraud, and errors.
Support preparation and execution of the annual audit, including coordination with external auditors.
Budgeting & Capital Project Oversight

Provide leadership in the development, monitoring, and management of annual budgets, including those tied to capital management projects and facility improvements.
Track capital project budgets against forecasts, flagging variances and recommending corrective actions as needed.
Work with department leaders to align budget allocations with Concilio’s strategic priorities.
Systems & Process Improvement

Oversee the implementation, optimization, and security of Concilio’s financial systems, including Sage Intacct, Paycom, and RAMP, ensuring reliable data, strong integration, and efficient workflows.
Lead process improvement initiatives to increase automation, accuracy, and user-friendliness of fiscal systems.
Cross-Functional Collaboration

Act as a financial liaison for department heads, offering budgetary guidance, grant reporting support, and responsive fiscal insights.
Partner with the CFO to align financial operations with the organization’s mission and sustainability plans.
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting strongly preferred; Finance, or related field degree will be considered (CPA or MBA preferred)
5-7 years of progressive nonprofit financial and accounting leadership experience, including staff supervision, with 10-15 years of experience in accounting
Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles, and federal/state compliance
Demonstrated experience managing payroll, bonuses, and expense systems (Paycom, RAMP, Amex)
Proficiency in Sage Intacct or similar nonprofit financial software
Familiarity with capital budgeting and oversight of facility or infrastructure projects a plus
Strong communication skills and ability to present financial data clearly to non-financial audiences
Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
Physical Demands

Ability to sit for extended periods and use standard office equipment
Occasional lifting of office items up to 25 lbs
Occasional travel to organizational sites or offsite events
Work Environment

The Fiscal Director will primarily work in an office setting, with a standard Monday–Friday schedule and occasional evenings or weekends to meet deadlines. This position plays a mission-critical role in maintaining Concilio’s financial health and transparency.
