This is food preparation, clerical and basic administrative work involving organizing and controlling a food service in a community recreation center. An employee of this class is responsible for organizing the kitchen operation, purchasing and maintaining an adequate inventory of supplies, planning, preparing and serving a variety of meals and maintaining appropriate records. In addition, an incumbent directs and participates in the work of a group of volunteers engaged in preparing and selling food and beverages. Considerable independence of judgment and action are exercised in day to day operations. Unusual problems or policy matters are referred to a superior who evaluates work performance in terms of an effective food service operation and the quality of service to patrons.
Some of the key responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:
Organizes and coordinates the operation of the food services in a recreation centre; prepares meals for lunches, special events and snacks; ensures conformance with established health regulations, safe practices, and established standards
Assists in the scheduling, directs and participates in the work of a group of volunteers engaged in preparing and selling meals, snacks and beverages and cleaning the food service area; trains volunteers as required
Estimates requirements, orders, purchases and stocks supplies, maintains inventory control of same, researches and evaluates equipment needs as directed; inspects equipment to ensure health standards and proper operation of mechanical equipment
Plans menus, within budget and nutritional guidelines and in consultation with a superior; monitors food budget, recommends prices to ensure break-even operations, analyzes costs, recommends and, upon approval, implements changes concerning menu items, food prices, food service operations and related matters
The successful candidate for this position will have:
Certificate in Culinary Arts from a Community College plus sound related experience including proven experience in the area of working with volunteers
Valid Class 5 Driver's License - Province of British Columbia.
B.C. Food Safe Certificate Level I and II
Basic First Aid Certificate
