Job Description
The Forecasting Manager will serve as the central owner of the company sales forecast across wholesale channels, with a particular focus on Target, Walmart, and Amazon. This person will partner cross-functionally across Sales, Finance, Operations, Planning, Product Development, and Leadership to create a single trusted forecast that drives inventory planning, production decisions, revenue expectations, retailer readiness, and operational execution.
The ideal candidate is highly analytical, deeply experienced in retail and wholesale forecasting, comfortable working in ambiguity, and capable of balancing retailer POS trends with real operational realities.
What You’ll Do
• Own and maintain the company sales forecast across all channels, with primary emphasis on wholesale accounts including Target, Walmart, and Amazon.
• Develop rolling weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual forecasts at the SKU, style, category, retailer, and program level.
• Translate POS trends, retailer inventory positions, orderbook data, replenishment trends, promotional calendars, seasonality, and shipment timing into actionable forecasts.
• Build and manage a single integrated demand forecast that aligns Sales, Finance, Operations, and Production around one source of truth.
• Analyze retailer-specific trends including:
• Walmart Retail Link reporting
• Target POS and replenishment performance
• Amazon Vendor/Seller Central performance metrics
• Weeks of supply, sell-through, in-stock levels, markdown exposure, and replenishment risk
• Identify forecast risks and opportunities early, including inventory liability, retailer softness, late receipts, over-forecasting, under-forecasting, and shifting consumer trends.
• Lead weekly forecast reviews and communicate changes, risks, and assumptions clearly to leadership.
• Partner closely with Sales to understand account strategies, modular changes, test performance, line reviews, and retailer commitments while maintaining independent ownership of the final forecast.
• Work closely with Finance to support budgeting, revenue planning, margin forecasting, and inventory management.
• Support Operations and Production teams with demand visibility to improve purchasing, capacity planning, and on-time delivery.
• Monitor forecast accuracy and continuously improve forecasting methodology, reporting structure, and planning tools.
• Build reporting and dashboards that simplify complex business trends into actionable insights for cross-functional teams.
• Participate in seasonal planning and new program evaluations by modeling sales expectations, risk, and inventory implications.
• Ensure forecasting assumptions are grounded in actual performance data rather than anecdotal feedback or optimism.
What We’re Looking For
• 5+ years of experience in forecasting, demand planning, sales planning, merchandise planning, or inventory planning within apparel, consumer goods, or retail.
• Strong experience forecasting wholesale retail businesses, particularly Target, Walmart, and/or Amazon.
• Deep understanding of retail replenishment models, sell-through metrics, POS reporting, and inventory management.
• Advanced Excel skills required.
• Experience with forecasting, ERP, BI, or planning systems preferred (Power BI, Retail Link, Centric PLM, ERP platforms, etc.).
• Ability to work cross-functionally and challenge assumptions when necessary.
• Strong business judgment and ability to distinguish signal from noise.
• Highly organized with strong attention to detail and follow-through.
• Comfortable operating in a fast-moving entrepreneurial environment with evolving priorities.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to present complex data clearly and directly.
Bonus Points If You Have
• Experience forecasting basics businesses or replenishment-heavy categories.
• Experience supporting both wholesale and DTC forecasting environments.
• Familiarity with Amazon forecasting and marketplace demand variability.
• Experience building forecasting infrastructure in a growing company environment.
