(Chicago/Hybrid) The General Accountant will work to support the Finance Department in a variety of basic accounting functions including reconciliations and accounting entries as well as other supporting administrative responsibilities. The General Accountant will report directly to the Sr. Director of Finance. This position is based in our Chicago headquarters.
We are seeking an individual with a Bachelor’s in Finance or Accounting. We require 1 to 3 years of relevant “hands-on” experience in accounting or finance, including experience completing bank reconciliations, electronic journal entries and performing general ledger reconciliations. Non-profit experience is preferred.
Essential Job Responsibilities Include:
General Accounting:
Process Gifts in Kind revenue, including stock gifts, Crypto, as well as various other receipts.
Assist with wire documentation and bank documents including scanning/downloads/ signature routing, reimbursements, gift card reconciliations.
Finance Department with analyses and reconciliations, including managing the lease calculations and reconciliations.
Distribute information and backup documents to internal stakeholders and auditors as directed.
Process grants to external partners in Sage financial system.
Reporting and Analysis:
Support Finance Department with analyses and reconciliations, including managing the lease calculations and reconciliations.
Standard Operating Procedures and Administrative Support:
Track and document Finance Department Standard Operating Procedures.
Support the finance department with other administrative duties as assigned.
Technical & Individual Skills:
Intermediate to advanced skill level with Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel, intranet and internet usage, and customer/ donor database software. Working knowledge of accounting software, Sage Intacct software knowledge preferred.
Working knowledge of GAAP.
General knowledge and understanding of accounting and auditing processes.
Must be comfortable working with accounting software.
Good verbal and written communication skills
Excellent attention to detail; strong analytical and problem-solving skills with strong follow-up abilities.
Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
Ability to simultaneously manage multiple tasks or projects with competing deadlines and to meet deadlines.
Must be self-motivated and proactive with the ability to work independently with minimal direction.
Ability to establish and maintain a comprehensive and accurate record-keeping system and office procedures.
