Te whiwhinga mahi - Our opportunity

Te M t wai is the creation of a 276-unit apartment complex in central Auckland, delivered under a 'single-site supported housing' model.

'Single site supported housing' is the coordination of public housing coupled with support services to meet customers' social and health needs and increase wellbeing. Te M t wai is one of the first demonstrations of single site supported housing in Aotearoa New Zealand with 24/7 on-site support and Hapori Kaitiaki services.

Hapori Kaitiaki - Community Guardians

The Hapori Kaitiaki (Community Guardian) will be the first point of contact for customers and tenants at 139 Greys Avenue, their visitors, and the community. You will be responsible for ensuring they all receive the appropriate care, information and support required within a welcoming, healthy environment. The team is working under 24/7 shift schedule environment which include the night shifts.

These roles provide the opportunity to make a real difference in our customers' lives, as you build trust, develop strong and lasting relationships, support housing and wellbeing needs and help to create a thriving, connected community at 139 Greys Avenue.

A key part of the role is engaging effectively and connecting with the inter-disciplinary groups working within the 139 Greys Avenue complex, the on-site Lead Support Provider, wider K inga Ora groups and external stakeholders. Single-Site Supported Housing is an innovative approach for K inga Ora, and cross-team collaboration is important for its success.

Ng pumanawatanga ou - What you will bring

A track record of supporting customers who may have challenging housing and wellbeing needs, coupled with the ability to build enriching customer relationships.
Preferred experience in working rotating day and night shifts
You will be adept at recognising emerging situations, de-escalating highly emotional situations or conversations, and knowing when to escalate and request external support.
You will have strong observational and analytical skills that can be applied to practical situations, with an aptitude for problem solving and understanding the reasons behind customer issues in an empathetic manner that is free of judgment.
You will be experienced working with diverse cultures and/or community groups and be embracing of the diverse environment Te M t wai offers.
Speaking multiple languages including English would be an advantage but is not essential.
First Aid certification and Safety Intervention or De-escalation certification is an advantage, but training will be provided.
Important to know

These roles are physically and mentally challenging. You will be presented with confronting and potentially triggering situations. Applicants should consider this before applying.
Applicants must be available to work morning, afternoon, and night shifts as part of a 24/7 frontline service.
Rosters will be published 2 to 4 weeks in advance.
Availability for on-call work during weekdays and weekends would be a distinct advantage.
In recognition of shift work in these roles, you will be entitled to an additional week of leave each year (pro rata).
Time and a half for overtime
Free safe and secure car park on site during your shift
You will also receive a paid break per shift, in lieu of being required to remain on site during shift. Rest breaks are also provided.
