Job description, work day and responsibilities
Purpose of the Role:
To lead and manage the credit risk management team covering PAN India underwriting of all products within the Retail Banking and SME portfolio, ensuring effective credit risk management, and adherence to underwriting policies and procedures.
Responsibilities:
Strategy and Planning -
• Provide inputs in creating Credit Risk overall strategy & create a roadmap to ensure adherence to overall objectives, goals.
• Collaborate with leadership to identify new initiatives/ projects and set operational plans that meet these future demands.
• Participate in credit risk budgeting cycle & process and provide inputs on budget allocation for own sub-function/ team.
• Oversee deployment of own budget and ensure efficient utilization and minimum variance in target v/s actual.
Policies, Processes & Procedures -
• Implement approved policies, processes, procedures and monitor their adherence so that work is carried out in a controlled manner.
• Identify opportunities for continuous improvement of policies, processes and procedures taking into account leading practices, improvement of business processes, cost reduction and productivity improvement.
• Monitor day-to-day activities to ensure compliance with stipulated policies and procedures.
Risk Management and Credit Appraisal -
• Conduct strategic credit risk assessments and analysis, ensuring adherence to regulatory guidelines and risk management frameworks.
• Oversee the appraisal of complex proposals involving detailed analysis of Income Statement, Balance Sheet, Financial Ratios, Cash Flows,
Management Risk, Industry Risk, economic conditions to ensure complete adherence to regulatory guidelines.
• Build and maintain relationships with key customers, promoters, and prospective clients to drive business growth and increase share of wallet.
• Manage and oversee credit decision-making processes, recommending credit proposals to higher authorities or credit committees.
• Monitor and review portfolio quality, implement corrective actions, and conduct regular policy and process reviews.
• Manage loan portfolio by monitoring industry/geography concentration, security coverage, and limit utilization.
• Create conducive risk culture to scale up business in line with stated goals along with focus on superior underwriting standards, Turn around time and productivity.
Documentation and Process Compliance -
• Establish and maintain documentation standards, ensuring adherence to the highest quality standards.
• Conduct periodic audits to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and maintain process compliance.
• Communicate and collaborate with product partners and other Relationship Management groups to ensure understanding and compliance with regulatory guidelines.
Risk and Internal Control -
• Manage RBI audit, Internal Audit, other regulatory requirements and represent the Branch Banking Risk in various management committees.
• Manage operational risk and proactively address any potential audit issues in the concerned area to ensure compliance and minimize operational disruptions.
• Conduct thorough testing and diligently implement the Business Continuity Plan in strict adherence to the Bank's policy, ensuring seamless operations and preparedness for any potential disruptions.
• Facilitate the timely and accurate preparation and submission of regulatory and internal management/board reports, ensuring the provision of comprehensive and reliable information for informed decision-making and regulatory compliance.
Qualifications:
• Master's degree in business, finance, or equivalent. Professional Certifications such as Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Financial Risk Manager (FRM) etc. is preferred
• 15+ years of experience in risk management. Prior experience in credit underwriting with at least 5 years in leadership roles
• Credit Risk management for complete retail asset products and SME portfolios in large banks
