Head of Product - Datascape

Job Description

Our Why

Datacom works with organisations and communities across New Zealand and Australia to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives, helping organisations use technology to innovate, grow and deliver better outcomes.

Datascape is the newest and fastest growing product in the Local Government sector. We work with councils across Australia and New Zealand, providing a modern platform that supports day to day operations and enables stronger community engagement with the communities they serve.

About the role (your why)

This is an opportunity to shape how councils engage their staff and serve their communities, using intelligent, AI‑enabled products to redefine everyday work. As Head of Product for Datascape, you will set the vision and lead your team to create products that genuinely matter - combining deep customer insight, modern technology, and the responsible use of AI.

You will lead with clarity and ambition through discovery, innovation, and delivery, transforming ideas into scalable solutions that customers trust and organisations rely on. You will drive customer and commercial value while navigating ambiguity, interdependencies, and the practical application of AI to real‑world problems.

Here, you will embrace complexity and turn it into opportunity—crafting product strategies that grow markets, accelerate recurring revenue, and strengthen Datascape’s competitive edge through intelligent, AI‑enabled solutions. Your leadership won’t just manage roadmaps; it will inspire bold thinking, deep collaboration, and breakthroughs that change how councils work every day.

This is more than a product role. It’s a chance to mentor and grow a high‑calibre team of product leaders, build enduring partnerships across the organisation and with customers, and shape the future of an AI‑powered SaaS platform at scale. If you’re ready to leave your mark on a product that delivers real‑world impact and sets a new standard for local government technology, this is the role for you.

What you’ll bring:

You are an experienced product leader who has led teams across complex, enterprise‑scale platforms and knows how to turn strategy into execution. You’ve likely built and evolved products in regulated or mission‑critical environments, and are comfortable balancing customer outcomes, commercial impact, and technical realities.

You bring a strong grasp of modern product management—leading teams through discovery, delivery, and continuous improvement, and shaping roadmaps that align clearly to business goals and market opportunity. You know how to create focus, make trade‑offs, and guide teams through ambiguity with confidence.

You’re a coach and mentor who develops high‑performing product managers, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and growth. You work seamlessly across engineering, design, GTM, sales, and delivery teams to ensure products are built well, launched effectively, and trusted by customers.

You’re comfortable operating at the intersection of product, technology, and strategy. You bring strong technical judgement, can evaluate design and engineering tradeoffs, and help shape technical direction without needing to be hands‑on.

You are confident presenting product vision, roadmaps, prioritisation and investment plans – including expected returns and capital spend - to senior and C-level stakeholders.

You bring a practical, outcome‑focused approach to AI - understanding where it can meaningfully improve workflows, decision‑making, and efficiency. You can assess AI platforms and capabilities, define responsible use cases, and translate emerging technology into scalable, real‑world value.

Finally, you’re a leader who can define vision and success measures, align diverse stakeholders, manage investment and risk, and deliver programmes that move the business forward.

What you’ll do:

Lead the Datascape product function, setting clear direction and creating the conditions for high‑performing teams to do their best work.
Own the product vision, roadmap and and success metrics—ensuring priorities are grounded in customer insight, aligned to strategy, and focused on delivering measurable impact.
Mentor and develop a team of product managers, helping them grow as leaders while delivering high‑impact solutions that matter to customers and the business
Translate deep customer understanding into well‑prioritised outcomes, working closely with design, engineering, and go‑to‑market teams to deliver intelligent, AI‑enabled capabilities where they create real value.
Manage investment, timelines, and risk with discipline—balancing ambition with pragmatism to achieve strategic objectives
Oversee delivery from discovery through to release, proactively resolving dependencies and navigating complexity to keep teams moving forward
Collaborate across the organisation to ensure products are released effectively, adopted successfully, and trusted by customers
Communicate product vision, progress, and impact with clarity and confidence to senior and executive stakeholders and represent Datascape as the Head of Product in sales cycles and at industry events.
