Position Summary
As one of Public Health Institute’s programs, Health Intervention Projects for Underserved Populations (HIPUP) conducts community-based research/programs for underserved populations (e.g., gender and ethnic minorities) in the field of substance abuse, HIV/AIDS, and trauma prevention and treatment. Through collaboration with targeted communities, HIPUP strives to have a significant impact on health promotion and human rights for underserved communities locally and internationally.

In collaboration with Korean Community Center of the East Bay, the Health Educator will work for the SAMHSA.CSMHS-funded study, Improving the Wellness for Asian Youth 2 (IWAY2). IWAY2 aims to provide trauma-informed treatment and other services [e.g., youth empowerment programs (YEPs)] to reduce psychological symptoms and behavioral problems and promote health and well-being for Asian children in Alameda County, CA.

This position is a full-time position working 100% FTE (40 hours/week).

This position is currently remote and is required to travel within the Alameda County to attend meetings and conduct outreach and Youth Empowerment Program a few times a week or more as needed. Candidates who live in Alameda County are strongly preferred. The incumbent must be based in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Full pay range for this position: $23.63 to $32.+3 per hour. The typical hiring range for this position is from $23.63 (minimum) to $28.28 (midpoint) per hour. The starting wage is determined using a variety of factors, such as the candidate’s knowledge, skills, and experience, as well as internal equity considerations and budget availability.

This position is contingent upon project funding renewal.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Conduct community/online outreaches targeting Asian communities.
Build collaborative working relationships with local schools and community-based organizations (CBOs).
Work closely with Korean Community Center of the East Bay to implement trauma-informed Youth Activity Programs and other project activities.
Using the motivational interviewing techniques, recruit Asian children and youth into IWAY2 project.
Conduct intake and follow-up risk assessments.
Collect and enter assessment and outcome data.
Refer participants to IWAY2 Counseling Program.
Manage materials and facility logistics for outreach events and activities.
Process cash payments to participants.
Supervise the high school interns.
Travel to the Alameda County to attend meetings and conduct outreach and Youth Empowerment Program project activities a few times a week or more as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
1 year of relevant work experience.
High school diploma.
Other Qualifications
Working experience in the Asian communities.
Strong knowledge of mental health and health disparity issues in Asian community.
Some experience in working with children and their families.
Ability to maintain accurate record-keeping.
Ability to recognize and resolve problems as they occur.
Good attention to detail, self-motivation, ability to work independently as well as part of a team, and good organizational skills.
Ability and comfort in engaging in open and nonjudgmental conversations with participants from diverse backgrounds (e.g., ethnic, gender, and ****** minorities) with sensitivity.
Some experience in peer counseling or case management.
Good computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel).
Ability to travel locally and work outside of regular business hours as required.
