Job Summary:
Operates a Horizontal Directional Drill and/or perform the drill-head locating for a Horizontal Directional Driller for installation of underground cables, conduit, gas power and water. Knowledge in fiber optic installation. The preferred candidate will have experience within the utility construction and maintenance industry.
Duties and Functions, Skills, Abilities and Knowledge:
Two years of Horizontal Directional Drill experience is preferred.
Experience with different size Vermeer or Ditch Witch units and various brands of locating equipment such as Digitrak and Subsite is required.
Read utility locate drawings and paint markings and then determine a safe path to bore past the exposed utilities or identify when it’s not safe.
Must have the ability to read and understand maps, drawings and diagrams related to the project design, have knowledge of utility depths and placement.
They must ensure all applicable permits and locates are reviewed and on site before boring.
Ability to use utility locators such as Vivax Metrotech, Dynatel, Radio Detection etc. would be an asset. They are expected to confirm the bore path with Field Manager and drill locator (including walking the bore path).
Inspect the work that is in progress to ensure that the workmanship conforms to customer specifications and follow OH’S safety standards.
The operators/ locator perform all duties according to prescribed safety procedures and use appropriate safety equipment. They ensure there are proper clearances to install the product by OH’S standards. The drill operator must perform proper maintenance by greasing, oiling, making minor repairs on equipment and recognizing equipment issues and then identify them to their supervisor.
The operator/ locator must be physically fit and lift over 50lb
Our operators / locator must have experience in drilling in both standard and high-risk areas with congested utilities.
Must be able to work in remote areas or urban areas.
Must be able to work out of town 2 weeks at a time +/- .
Willing to work outdoors in all types of weather and work overtime as required.
Must have basic hand tools. specialize tools provided
We require a current 5-year drivers abstract
· Must be able to provide 3 years of personal insurance history or letter of experience if located out of the province.
Additional Requirements:
A Valid Driver's license is required, Class 1 or 3 is preferred. You must have the ability to manage time effectively. Must be self-motivated and be a positive influence on your co-workers. The candidate must be able to solve problems and exercise good judgement. They should have a positive attitude and an eagerness to learn.
Job Type: Full-time year round
Salary: $30.00-$38.00 per hour based on experience
