Full job description
The People and Organisational Development Directorate has exciting opportunity for a HR Advisor to join us to cover a period of maternity leave until 31st March 2025.

Working within our People and Organisation Development directorate, with the support of a HR Business Partner you will support our managers to deliver the best approach to people management, reduce absence and improve recruitment and retention.

At Yorkshire Ambulance Service, our vision is “To be trusted as the best urgent and emergency care provider with the best people and partnerships, delivering the best outcomes for patients”. Our workforce is central to achieving this vision, and we are committed to attracting and recruiting the best talents in all areas of the service.

Your role will be to support the effective delivery of a high quality and professional Human Resources service providing focused challenge, advice and guidance to managers in the Trust and ensure effective implementation of, and compliance with, all workforce policies, procedures, workforce practices and standards.

You will be expected to lead on reducing sickness absence through active management of cases including short & long-term sickness and manage a caseload of investigations i.e. disciplinary grievance and harassment and performance management issues.

You will also be expected to communicate with Trade Union representatives, senior managers and clinicians confidently and effectively regarding workforce matters and casework. You will have a strong background in HR, but NHS experience is not essential, more important is your drive and enthusiasm with an ability to apply your HR knowledge and expertise to an NHS setting.

Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS) NHS Trust geographically covers nearly 6,000 square miles of varied terrain, from isolated moors and dales to urban areas, coastline and inner cities.

We serve a population of over five million people across Yorkshire and the Humber and strive to ensure that patients receive the right response to their care needs as quickly as possible, wherever they live.

We employ more than 7,100 staff, who together with over 1,300 volunteers, enable us to provide a vital 24-hour, seven-days-a-week, emergency and healthcare service.

Our ambition is to be an employer of choice, and we are continuously working across our partnership to improve our collective offer to staff in areas like health and wellbeing, benefits and flexible working incl. hybrid working.

Benefits:
Flexible working including part-time hours, job shares and flexible hours, agile working (role dependant)

27 days annual leave, increasing to 33 with service.

Contributory Pension.

NHS Discounts including shops, restaurants, gyms etc.

Car lease and other salary sacrifice schemes.

Dedicated employee assistance and counselling service.

Opportunities for research participation, career progression and ongoing development.

Well respected, committed and supported staff networks for our workforce.

The HR Advisor will act as a first point of contact for formal and informal information and advice on employment policies and procedures across the Trust, as well as employment legislation, NHS Terms and Conditions, pay and a broad range of people issues. Work on own initiative and prioritise own workload and ensure key performance indicators and service level agreements are met, supported by the HR Business Partner. Contribute towards and support ongoing people initiatives.

Manage a case load of employee relations activity including disciplinary, grievance, dignity, civility and respect at work, and support managers in performance management issues. Support reducing sickness absence through active management of cases including short-term & long-term sickness, advising on health and wellbeing initiatives and workplace adjustments.

YAS is a large organisation so experience of a similar environment would be advantageous. NHS experience would be useful but is not essential and HR practitioners from all backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

Experience of working with trade unions is essential.

Yorkshire Ambulance Service supports flexible working and work/life balance, so applications are welcome from applicants seeking full time and/or part time hours.

Trust wide travel will be needed occasionally. We take a hybrid working approach with a mix of home and office-based time.
