Overview:
In a team-based environment, reporting to the Manager, Human Resources Services and working closely with the Human Resources (HR) Generalists in the division, you will assist with various aspects of Human Resource administration for the NWT Power Corporation (NTPC), including providing assistance and support in the functions of payroll, benefits, recruitment and special projects. This position is excluded from the bargaining unit.
Responsibilities:
Assists Human Resources with staffing for NTPC vacancies. Involves pre-screening, reference checking and on-site interview arrangements. Prepares and packages materials related to employee on-boarding.
Administers relocation including travel arrangements, obtaining quotes and authorizing the transportation of household goods, reimbursement of travel expenses, authorizing expense invoices and tracking of relocation expenses.
Assists with payroll administrative functions such as paycard updates and filing.
Assists with filing and maintaining employee personnel files and divisions records management electronic filing requirements.
Assists in the preparation and coordination of various HR activities, such as Long Service awards and events, the NTPC bursary program, and summer student recruitment.
Administers employee medical travel by ensuring all “Certifications for Medical Travel” are submitted to Human Resources for approval, verification of required documents, arranging travel and accommodation and review/approval of medical travel expense claims.
Coordinates and tracks Corporate apartments for new hires, medical travel and duty travel use. Arranges cleaning, quarterly checks, and key drop-off/pick-up for apartments located in Hay River. Prepares the units as required, prior to new hire arrival.
You will be required to provide training to and receive training from co-workers, as well as perform other responsibilities in applicable areas as assigned by the Manager, Human Resources Services.
Provides administrative support dirrectly to the Director, Humar resources for staffing, grievance responses, as well as other Corporate administration as time permits.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma and ten years experience in payroll admin or customer service or office management is required. Equivalencies may be considered.
Excellent computer skills to operate within the Microsoft Office software programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) with experience in the application of payroll admin and accounting systems.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to coordinate staffing activities and to maintain effective working relationships with staff in the administering services.
Ability to work in a team environment.
Analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to interpret and apply legislation, policies and procedures, and Collective Agreements and to provide advice and assistance staff.
Administrative and organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and assignments and to maintain a variety of files, documentation and reports.
Successful applicant must provide a satisfactory criminal record check prior to commencing work.
Salary for this position ranges from $39.03/hr-$47.46/hr. plus a location allowance of approximately $3,823 per annum. We offer a comprehensive benefits package which includes health and dental benefits, long-term disability, life insurance, paid sick days and a defined benefits pension plan.
