Job Description
• Job Title:
• HR Consultant
• Location:
• Predominantly home-based, with appropriate travel for client meetings and related duties. Occasional UK overnight stays may be required.
• Salary:
• £34,000 - £38,000 per annum, depending on experience. Pro-rated for part-time contracted hours.
• Contract:
• Permanent, subject to successful probationary period.
• Overview:
• The HR Consultant provides outsourced HR support to clients, primarily small businesses and charities without internal HR departments. The role involves handling employee relations, drafting HR documents, and responding to day-to-day HR queries. Opportunities for involvement in specialized projects like pay and reward, organizational development, and training delivery may arise. The role supports business growth and collaborative work with other HR consultants.
• Reports to:
• Managing Director
• Hours:
• Full-time (37.5 hours per week), Monday to Friday (0+:00 – 17:30 with a one-hour lunch break). The role is also available part-time (0.6 - 1.0 FTE), with required work on Wednesdays and Fridays and at least one additional day. Flexible working hours can be arranged.

Main Responsibilities
• Respond to day-to-day HR queries from employers.
• Build trusted client relationships and provide proactive HR support.
• Advise on employee relations matters, including conducting disciplinary, grievance, and appeal investigations.
• Draft and review HR documentation like employment contracts and policies.
• Support specialized projects based on customer needs and role-holder skills.
• Handle administrative tasks related to the company’s services.
• Contribute to the company’s growth strategy with the Managing Director.

Training & Development
• Work-time allocated for Continuous Professional Development (CPD), including sharing knowledge internally.
• Opportunity to network in the local HR community and employee-ownership community.

Employee Ownership

Person Specification

Qualifications & Knowledge:
• Essential:
• CIPD Associate Member (CIPD Level-3 qualified).
• GCSE grade 5/C in English (or equivalent).
• Strong knowledge of current employment law requirements in England and Wales.
• Commitment to continuous professional development, particularly in employment law and HR best practices.
• Desirable:
• CIPD Level 5 qualified.
• Institute of Leadership and Management Qualification.
• Educated to degree level in a relevant discipline.
• Knowledge of Employee-Ownership (particularly EOTs).

Skills & Experience:
• Essential:
• At least two years of experience in an HR Advisor role (or similar).
• Experience in supporting managers with employee relations matters (disciplinary and grievance).
• Experience in drafting and updating HR documents in line with legislation, best practices, and organizational needs.
• Skilled in building relationships and influencing employees and managers.
• Skilled in handling challenging HR conversations and achieving successful outcomes.
• Highly organized, able to work independently and prioritize effectively.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Excellent customer service skills, confident in communication via phone, video calls, email, and messaging apps.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office.
• Desirable:
• Experience in conducting disciplinary, grievance, and appeal investigations and hearings.
• Confident in designing and delivering training.
• Experience advising managers on specialist HR or employment law aspects, such as pay and reward, TUPE, organizational development, diversity and inclusion, etc.
• Experience working as an HR Consultant or HR Business Partner.
• Good commercial awareness, understanding key drivers for small business owners.

• Full UK driving licence with no more than six penalty points.
