Duties
The Civic Education team at Elections Canada is looking for a passionate Indigenous educator to join the team in a key role focused on building and nurturing education partnerships across the country.
As an Indigenous Education Advisor (IS 05), you will:
Create learning materials and activities that reflect First Nations, Inuit, and Métis histories, cultures, languages, and ways of knowing (where appropriate).
Lead civic education workshops for teachers, students, and adults using culturally safe, community respectful approaches.
Build and maintain strong relationships with Indigenous communities, education authorities, and partner organizations.
Provide guidance on culturally safe engagement and ways of working with Indigenous partners and knowledge keepers (as needed).
Explain electoral topics in clear, accessible language that respects community contexts and lived experiences.
Use your knowledge of Indigenous and provincial/territorial education systems to support program planning and to identify key information when needed.
Coordinate project tasks with colleagues and partners, keeping work on track while respecting community timelines and protocols.
Write and edit teaching guides, facilitation notes, presentations, briefing notes, and web content.
Gather feedback from educators and communities to help improve materials.
Manage your workload independently and contribute to team projects in a collaborative, community minded way.

Our team includes Indigenous educators who bring community knowledge, classroom experience, and lived perspectives to our work. Our learning materials reflect Indigenous histories, present day experiences, and community voices. We also work with Indigenous partners across the country, including Connected North, to make sure our resources and workshops meet the needs of students, teachers, and communities.

Intent of the process
The immediate intention of this process is to staff one (1) (TERM) position for a specified period of one (1) year (with the possibility of extension) with a English essential linguistic requirement.
A pool of fully or partially qualified candidates may be established to staff positions at the same group and level or equivalent within Elections Canada with various linguistic requirements on a temporary or indeterminate (permanent) basis.

Significant experience* creating educational materials.
Experience in developing training sessions and workshops for youth (under 18) and/or adults.
Significant experience* working collaboratively with First Nations, Inuit, or Métis communities or organizations to share information, build relationships, or support educational initiatives.
Experience providing strategic advice or guidance on program objectives, engagement strategies or educational activities.

Significant experience is defined as the depth and breadth of experience normally associated with having performed related duties for a period of approximately five (5) years.
