Job Description
We work in collaboration with PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP (Canada) and the PwC international network, to bring integrated, high-quality solutions to PwC clients. The successful candidate would have the opportunity to work with national and international clients and advisors. Our practice involves advisory work, transactional work (including domestic and cross border reorganizations, mergers and acquisitions), and dispute resolution work. We pride ourselves on a team-based, collaborative approach designed for optimal mentorship and development of the team and the practice.
Meaningful work you’ll be part of
As an indirect tax Senior Associate at PwC Law, you’ll work as part of a team of problem solvers, helping to solve business issues, deliver high quality client service and operational efficiency. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Developing an expertise in Goods and Services Tax/Harmonized Sales Tax, Federal Excise Tax, Provincial Sales Taxes, Fuel and Carbon Taxes (both provincial and federal) as well as sales and premium taxes on insurance
• Establishing effective working relationships directly with clients
• Liaising with clients and tax authorities on client’s indirect tax matters, including audits and appeals
• Researching complex Canadian indirect tax issues and engaging in legal analysis of these issues
• Drafting legal opinions and memos on indirect tax matters
• Reviewing commercial agreements and the tax terms
• Promoting indirect tax knowledge internally within PwC
• Assisting with complex indirect tax litigation files
• Contributing to the development of your own and team’s technical acumen
• Keeping up to date with the changes to the tax law as well as with the local and national business and economic issues
• Be actively involved in business development activities to help identify and research opportunities on new/existing clients
• Continue to develop internal relationships and your PwC brand
Experiences and skills you’ll use to solve
• Be a member of the Law Society of Alberta or are eligible to become a member of this law society.
• Excellent academic credentials – Please include academic transcripts in your application
• Must be self-motivated with a genuine desire to learn different areas of indirect tax
• Strong work ethic
• Strong analytical, communication, drafting and writing skills
• Must be digitally enabled/engaged and comfortable with using and learning technology
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage deadlines
• Interest in working collaboratively as part of a team, participating in team-based initiatives for growth and development and to implement innovation in our delivery of services
• A demonstrated commitment to valuing differences and working alongside diverse people and perspectives
