Education/ Experience and Skill Requirement
• Master's degree in Finance from a top-tier school/Chartered Accountant or equivalent; CFA/CPA certification will be an added advantage
• 3-6 years of buy-/sell-side equity research experience, having covered at least one geography (the US/EU/Asia); ESG research experience will be an added advantage
• A strong financial background with excellent financial modelling skills and ability to dissect financial reports
• Excellent knowledge of valuations techniques, including DCF, relative valuation, SOTP, NAV and NPV
• Keen attention to detail to ensure consistent accuracy in all work documents and data
• Experience in working effectively in a team-oriented environment, collaborating with the team, seniors and the client
• Strong communication skills, including exceptional reading, writing and oral communication skills
• Highly numerate, with the ability to work with large datasets to derive fact-based insights
• Previous demonstration of idea generation and thought-leadership ability
• Decent knowledge of at least one financial services database (e.g., FactSet, Bloomberg, Capital IQ or Thomson Reuters)
• Advanced computer skills, especially proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint and Word; knowledge of VBA/macros/SQL/Python will be an added advantage
Responsibilities
• Financial and accounting statement analysis, top-down macroeconomic analysis, bottom-up research
• Partnering with onshore analysts and working in a focused industry team of associates to cover a particular sector in detail
• Scrutinising and finding detailed revenue and cost drivers, KPIs, and performing FCF valuation and prepare scenario analysis
• Building and maintenance of detailed macro and industry data series as well as industry/company-specific financial models and including impact analysis from ESG and risk perspective
• Synthesising data to generate new investment ideas and/or proposing investment action to the onshore analyst/investment officers
• Communicating key findings and recommendations to the appropriate unit/team
• Initiating research and applying multiple sources, including annual or industry reports, trade journals, technical periodicals and management reports to conduct research relating to the investment suitability of companies
• Planning industry, sector and company reports (initiation reports, earnings updates, thematic reports) and presentations for internal and external clients
• Staying abreast of trends in business conditions and/or monetary policy that could affect the investment market
