As the Ministry of Forestry and Parks we are responsible for fostering Alberta’s environmentally responsible forest management practices, including management of wildfires. We preserve our provincial parks for the recreation and enjoyment of Albertans. As well as enabling access to public lands for recreational and commercial purposes while prioritizing conservation. Forestry and Parks also manages public lands and balances sustainable rangelands and grazing leases for Alberta producers.

The Strategy, Policy, and Economic (SPE) and the Forest Management and Wildfire Mitigation (FMWM) branches manage forest management policy and provincial program development and implementation, from product market development, forest tenure issuance, timber scaling, timber royalty management, trade disputes, environmental reputation, inter-governmental affairs, and wildfire mitigation programs. The Branches supports the Forestry Division’s wildfire mitigation and policy needs, including legislation, operational and internal policy development.

The timely and accurate issues management is a critical and foundational function to manage risk and deliver branch and departmental mandates. You will be supporting both the SPE and FMWM in meeting ADM, DM, and Ministerial issues management needs, you will be a core resource to support the branch Executive Directors.

Your core roles as the Branch Issue Coordinator (IC) will be oversight, writing and editorial responsibilities of Action Request Tracking System (ARTS). Development and maintenance of issues tracker and ensuring awareness both branches regarding internal-to-department issues, cross ministry, and federal-provincial-territorial issues to support the leaderships of both branches (Directors and Executive Directors).

Your key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
1. Review and or develop various documents (action requests, branch meeting agendas and minutes, media releases, key message documents, etc.) resulting in appropriate communication, understanding of issues, and recommended actions.
2. Management of stakeholder (forest companies, special interest groups) critical issues and stakeholder communications.
3. Issue tracker to support Ministerial/Deputy as well as Division and Branch to ensure holistic and timely resolution.
4. Development and maintenance of close working relationship with sister ministry (e.g., Environment and Protected Areas, Indigenous Relations) issues managers.

Qualifications
Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree (4 years) with a major focus on natural resource management, plus 4 years of progressively responsible experience in project management and stakeholder engagement.


Equivalency:
Directly related experience or education considered based on:

1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

Assets:

Experience in Natural resource management (e.g., forestry, land management) is a highly desirable asset supporting the successful candidate’s ability to interact with technical and subject matter experts.
Excellence in concise written communications, with a focus on executive level audience communications. As well as interpersonal skills that enhance the ability to establish and maintain strong relationships.
Notes
This is a permanent, full-time role with the standard weekly work hours of 36.25, Monday to Friday.

Some travel may be required within the area and throughout the province as part of your responsibilities to coordinate with ministry staff and colleagues, other government departments, clients and other external stakeholders.
