The Alberta Court of Justice will recognize the importance of working collaboratively with First Nations, Metis and Inuit communities, and have a working knowledge around the Truth and Reconciliation Commission calls to action. Role Responsibilities
If you are a professional, highly motivated individual with excellent interpersonal and communication skills that desires and possesses the ability to lead and supervise a team of judicial paralegals, here an exciting opportunity for you to work within the Office of the Chief Justice.


You will report to the Manager of Operations and will be responsible for supervising and managing the Civil and Family and Youth Divisions in Edmonton and Calgary, in addition to also performing the duties of a Judicial paralegal.

You will be responsible for a wide variety of tasks including but not limited to:

Providing administrative support to the justices
Participating in the recruitment process and coordinating onboarding and training for new judicial paralegals
Administering the performance planning process for judicial paralegals ensuring that goals are set, reviewed and achieved
Supervising, mentoring and coaching staff
Managing leave requests, absences and time entries ensuring adequate coverage for the justices is maintained
Monitoring workloads, reallocating/delegating work and assisting with prioritization of tasks
Reviewing and seeking approval for requests for professional development
Conducting regular staff meetings
Building a collaborative environment which supports productivity and helps to achieve positive outcomes
Ensuring appropriate supplies are maintained
Participating in leadership initiatives for the Office of the Chief Justice and representing the Judicial Paralegal Team on various committees
Duties may also include assessing, negotiating, coordinating, assigning, and monitoring matters, as well as judicial scheduling
You will also be responsible for providing comprehensive administrative and legal support to one or more Justices, including but not limited to:


Managing calendars and scheduling appointments
Documenting and processing budgetary/claim expenses
Typing, formatting, editing and proofreading judgments, including researching and verifying case and statute citations, to ensure accuracy of the finished product prior to filing
Researching and preparing correspondence and memoranda of a highly complex and confidential nature
Preparing material for court hearings
Handling sensitive and confidential information
Establishing and maintaining hard-copy and electronic filing systems including organizing and classifying records
Handling incoming telephone inquiries and mail
Coordinating travel arrangements often of a complex nature
Coordinating meetings and conferences, which includes organizing and assembling all documents required
Performing backup duties for other Judicial paralegals
Performing other related administrative tasks as requested

Qualifications

A two-year diploma in a related field (e.g., Legal Assistant, Legal Administration, and Paralegal) supplemented with at least three years progressively responsible related experience.


Equivalencies will be considered on the basis of one year of education for one year of related legal experience or one year of legal experience for one year of related education.


Other Requirements:

Lifting/moving up to 25 pounds
This position involves bending, walking or using the elevator to access different floors within the courthouse, and pushing or pulling a cart for file movement between floors.
Assets include:

Previous experience as a Judicial paralegal/Paralegal/ Executive Assistant
A Legal Assistant Diploma
Supervisory experience
Experience working in M365 environment.
Experience working in a Court environment, preferably with the Court of Justice
Candidates may be asked to do further testing.


Selected candidates will be asked to complete a typing test prior to scheduling an interview. Typing speed of at least 50 WPM is desired.

There is a permanent position in Edmonton/Calgary, full-time, working Monday to Friday 8:15AM - 4:30PM, 36.25 hours a week.
