Junior Financial Accountant
Client Profile
Rooff Construction Ltd are a medium sized, family owned, traditional main contracting construction company based in Barking, Essex. The firm can trace its history back to the 20th Century, when it started as a small builder in the Poplar and West Ham area. Rooff started building in 1929 and currently operates from its Head Office site in Barking, East London.
The Company undertakes a wide variety of construction work in a number of sectors including residential, educational and heritage and also carries out its own property developments.
Objective
Rooff are looking to hire an Accounts Assistant to manage the purchase ledger for the business as well as post journals, bank reconciliations and gain experience in all areas of accountancy. The right individual will be able to become accounts technician qualified under the AAT, gain a wide range of experience and be willing to grow into the role. The position will actively support the finance team with indirect tasks and work closely with other team members as well as the Finance Director. A suitable candidate will have the ability to work both alone and part of a team with the ambition to take on new and more demanding tasks as the role expands.
The role will also include some IT support for the business, where the right candidate will be trained to give office and construction site IT support.

Job Role
The candidate would learn a wide range of skills working alongside our experienced finance team.
Tasks will include:
Purchase ledger end of month reconciliations and payments
Supplier statement reconciliations
Support finance team bank reconciliations and petty cash
Subcontractor application checking and posting
Surveyor payment notice processing
Subcontractor HMRC and bank detail verification
Post, reconcile and pay staff expense claims
Calculate and post supervision recharges
Maintain a database of subcontractor insurance
Taking on new responsibilities as the role expands.
Gain an accounting qualification with the AAT possibly moving on to higher level qualification.
Producing management accounts and ownership of one of our smaller entities.
Office and Site top level IT support
Support the finance Director and Financial controller with ad hoc tasks
Candidate Profile
This role will offer the candidate a long-term career path within the organisation.
Although it is not essential candidates may have already completed or be working towards an AAT qualification or similar.
Must be IT literate including Excel
Minimum GCSE or A-levels in English and Maths
Proven ability to work well with others in a team environment
Consistently looking to build knowledge in the finance area
A good communicator with initiative
Well organised and good with task management
Must have a strong work ethic
Professional attitude and reliable
Ideally has work experience in a finance department
Have a keen interest in finance and IT
Work Hours
Monday to Friday 8:30am to 5:00pm from our head office in Barking
