Job Description
Annabel specialises in criminal defence trial work, but also prosecutes for Crown Solicitors. Annabel also does appellate work and appears in the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court.
You will assist Annabel with all aspects of her practice, including file management and review, dealing with clients and witnesses, legal research and writing, general administration and Court work. You will also be expected to appear in Court and develop your advocacy skills. Annabel will have opportunities for you to act as junior counsel in cases with her (and others).
You will work in a busy and fun chambers environment with other junior lawyers as well as seniors.
You must have an interest in criminal law, and previous experience/exposure in that area is preferred. A legal aid listing of PAL 1 or 2 is preferred or alternatively, good experience. The majority of work will be large criminal cases so an ability to handle very large files, including fraud, is expected.
You must be Admitted, this is not a law graduate role.
The successful applicant with have attention to detail, outstanding legal research and writing skills, the ability to work unsupervised and under pressure, a strong academic record, and good interpersonal skills. Administrative skills including diary management and invoicing will be required.
With Annabel, you will continue to be trained as a Court-room lawyer; you will be able to become a Barrister in your own right too - acting for clients during trials/appeals and other substantive criminal matters.
