Full job description
Mō mātau (About us)

As a proudly indigenous tertiary educator, ‘tauira success’ is our mission and ‘whānau transformation through education’ is our vision, guiding our commitment to delivering quality education programmes underpinned by Māori culture and values.

Our kaimahi (employees) enjoy a whānau-friendly workplace and a great range of benefits to support their wellbeing and that of their whānau:

Free health and life insurance for permanent employees.
Four extra leave days each year to celebrate Matariki and Christmas, plus special leave available for those involved in cultural or sporting events.
Flexible work hours and work-from-home options for some roles.
Free car parking at our main campuses.

Mō tēnei mahi (About this job)

We’re looking for a passionate and supportive Kaiako to join our team in Invercargill, starting in January 2026. This is a full-time role (37.5 hours per week), with hours worked between Monday and Sunday, offering flexibility and variety throughout the week. If you're driven by a love for te reo Māori and are committed to uplifting others through education, we’d love to hear from you.

In this role, you'll be responsible for teaching Te Ara Reo Māori (He Pī Ka Pao – Kaupae 1 & 2). You'll guide and inspire tauira on their reo journey, creating meaningful lesson plans, delivering engaging content, and supporting tauira to achieve their learning goals. You’ll respond to individual learning needs, evaluate progress, and celebrate their growth along the way. To thrive in this role, you’ll need to bring a solid foundation in te reo Māori, strong teaching practices grounded in kaupapa Māori, and relevant tertiary qualifications that meet delivery and sector requirements. If you're passionate about revitalising te reo Māori and enjoy creating safe, encouraging spaces for learning—this is the role for you.

Mōu (About you)

You will be a confident conversational speaker of Te Reo Māori, have a thorough knowledge of tikanga Māori and be familiar with Te Reo Māori teaching methods that will motivate our tauira starting out on their journey in learning Te Reo Māori.

Ideally, applicants will have:

A Diploma in te reo Māori or higher
NZ Certificate in Adult Tertiary Teaching (NZCATT L5) or equivalent, or be willing to complete during the first year of employment
National Certificate in Adult Literacy & Numeracy Education (NCALNE) L5
Full and current NZ Driver Licence
As a kaupapa Māori organisation, your willingness to participate in cultural activities and develop an understanding of Āhuatanga Māori (values, culture and tikanga) is desirable.
