Job Description

About QLeave

QLeave is a statutory body responsible for administering portable long service leave schemes for workers in the building and construction, contract cleaning and community services industries. We manage more than $2 billion in funds under investment and operate under a Board governance model that includes employer and employee representatives.

QLeave is governed by three Acts and is committed to maintaining sound governance arrangements that support accountability, risk management, compliance and organisational culture. Our work ensures the sustainability of the schemes and supports Queensland workers to access the long service leave they have earned.

The Opportunity

As a Lawyer with QLeave, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality legal services within a small, highly capable legal team. You will have the opportunity to manage a varied caseload, provide expert legal advice, and contribute to the development of legal resources and training.

This role offers exposure to diverse and impactful legal matters, allowing you to develop your expertise while making a meaningful contribution to Queensland workers.

Reporting to the Manager, Legal Service, you will also have the opportunity to collaborate with internal stakeholders and executive leaders, contributing to decision-making at an organisational level.

What you'll do

Using your legal expertise and public sector experience, you will:

Provide high-quality legal and policy advice on a range of matters, including statutory interpretation, administrative law, regulatory activities, investigations and contracts.
Manage a diverse caseload and prepare legal documentation in a timely and accurate manner.
Represent QLeave in tribunals and courts, including the Queensland Industrial Relations Commissions and Industrial Magistrates Court as required.
Identify emerging issues and risks within the organisation and support the development of mitigation strategies.
Review and provide advice on contracts, policies, procedures and administrative reviews to ensure compliance and manage risk.
Build and maintain effective relationships with internal stakeholders to understand legal needs and proactively offer support.
Contribute to the development of legal resources, deliver guidance and training to staff and build capability within the Legal Services team.

What We're Looking For

You are a confident legal professional who brings sound judgement, strong communication skills and a collaborative approach to your work.

You will be successful in this role if you have:
demonstrated experience providing high-quality legal advice in a complex, regulated environment.
strong legislative interpretation and analytical skills.
the ability to clearly communicate complex legal issues to non-legal stakeholders.
experience managing competing priorities and delivering outcomes within timeframes.
a collaborative approach and the ability to build trusted internal relationships.

Mandatory requirement:
Admission, or eligibility for immediate admission, as a solicitor or barrister of the Supreme Court of Queensland. This role aligns with the Leadership Competencies for Queensland - Program Leader success profile, and requires someone who role models integrity, accountability and inclusive leadership.

Conditions and Benefits

Convenient Northgate location with free on-site and street parking.
Competitive salary with up to 12.75% superannuation contributions.
Generous leave entitlements, including annual leave loading.
Flexible work arrangements and a commitment to employee well-being.
Opportunities for professional development and career growth.
