Job Description
What sets us apart? We're an AI-first company, leveraging cutting-edge generative AI to transform every part of our ecosystem—from content creation and language localization to marketing, distribution, and monetization. Our in-house AI has already powered 10% of US revenue and is listening through original, AI-generated audio series. We're also expanding into new storytelling formats like comics and web novels, all built on the foundation of our proprietary AI platforms
Role Overview
As we continue to scale our storytelling ecosystem, we're looking for an experienced IP Lawyer to safeguard and grow our content assets. You will be the central legal advisor for our India content teams, working across originals, licensing, partnerships, adaptations, and global content expansion.
Your focus will be on IP acquisition, protection, commercialization, and dispute management, ensuring our stories and characters are legally protected and commercially leveraged for long-term value.
About the Role
- Lead legal strategy on content acquisition, original IP creation, and monetization, ensuring bulletproof chain-of-title. Set and implement IP policies across writing, production, publishing, and adaptation workflows.
- Lead IP enforcement and takedown actions (copyright infringements, piracy, etc.) across platforms. Manage external counsels for ongoing disputes and litigation, if any.
- Structure complex licensing and co-ownership models for original and adapted IP. Advise on IP aspects of commercial agreements, including joint development agreements and technology transfers.
- Advise business teams on format rights, character IPs, audio-to-video adaptation, and international syndication.
- Build and manage Pocket FM's India content rights portfolio—track ownership, duration, geography, and format rights.
- Build legal playbooks for the creative, production, and publishing teams.
- Cultivating an IP-aware culture by counseling and educating internal partners on intellectual property issues, including patents, clean room development, and licensing issues.
What We're Looking For
- 15 - 20 years of experience in IP law, with a minimum of 5 years in a media or entertainment company, production house, studio, or content platform.
- Track record of handling takedowns, infringement notices, or litigation related to digital content
- Deep knowledge of Indian copyright law, digital media regulations, and content licensing frameworks
- Strong negotiation skills and experience managing rights and royalties.
- Ability to interpret scripts and content creatively from a legal standpoint
- Strong commercial acumen, creative sensitivity, and ability to balance legal risk with business agility
