The Role

The Legal and Contract Management Lead is responsible for organisation‑wide execution, management and governance of contracts, agreements and associated legal frameworks.

This newly created role ensures TasTAFE meets its contractual, legislative and compliance obligations while supporting stakeholders seeking legal and contractual information. It also provides the opportunity to design and implement a contract management framework from the ground up, embedding best‑practice governance and accountability across the organisation.

This is an ongoing opportunity open to part‑time arrangements and with a flexible statewide location, working within the Governance & Corporate Affairs portfolio and reporting to the Executive Director – Governance & Corporate Affairs.

Key Responsibilities
Execute and manage contracts across the organisation, ensuring consistency and governance.
Review contracts, leases and agreements, providing timely advice prior to execution.
Ensure parties meet contractual, insurance and compliance obligations, including renewals and key dates.
Provide practical legal advice on contract terms, risks and obligations.
Oversee contract administration, records and agreement databases.
Develop and maintain Memoranda of Understanding aligned to legislative and organisational requirements.
Design and support compliance processes linked to contract management.
Liaise with the Office of the Crown Solicitor on legal matters and specialist advice
What You Bring
Experience in contract management, legal advisory services or governance within government or complex organisations.
Sound understanding of contract law and Tasmanian Government procurement and compliance frameworks.

Strong written and verbal communication skills, including clear legal advice.
Proven ability to build effective working relationships with diverse stakeholders.
High standards of confidentiality, professionalism and sound judgement.
Essential
Current Working with Vulnerable People registration in Tasmania, or ability to obtain prior to commencement.
Bachelor of Law (LLB) or equivalent and/or demonstrated experience providing legal services within Tasmanian Government agencies.
Desirable
Experience in contract governance, policy development or compliance frameworks.
