Your Team:
Join Flair’s Legal team, where practical legal guidance supports sound decision-making across the organization. Reporting to the VP, Legal, the Legal Counsel delivers business-focused legal advice across corporate, commercial, and regulatory matters within a regulated aviation environment. This role supports strategic initiatives, ensures compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and partners with internal stakeholders to manage legal risk while enabling operational and commercial objectives.
The Legal Counsel provides expertise in aviation regulatory compliance, corporate governance, commercial contracting, and policy development. Working closely with executive leadership and cross-functional teams, the role delivers timely and actionable legal guidance aligned with organizational priorities and supports informed decision-making across the business.
This position is based on-site at our Calgary (YYC), Edmonton (YEG), or Vancouver (YVR) office.
A Day in the Life
Provide timely, practical, and business-focused legal advice on corporate, commercial, and regulatory matters across the organization.
Draft, review, negotiate, and interpret a broad range of agreements, including commercial contracts, vendor agreements, aircraft and airport agreements, leases, confidentiality agreements, and service contracts.
Support corporate governance activities, including preparation and review of board materials, resolutions, and required corporate filings.
Advise on aviation regulatory requirements and applicable legislation, ensuring compliance with Transport Canada and other relevant regulatory authorities.
Support the development, review, and maintenance of company policies, procedures, and internal governance documents.
Identify and assess legal risks associated with business initiatives and provide clear recommendations to manage and mitigate those risks.
Assist with dispute resolution matters, including coordination of claims, demand letters, investigations, and litigation in collaboration with external counsel.
Manage and coordinate external legal counsel in Canada, the United States, Mexico, and the Caribbean to ensure effective and cost-efficient handling of legal matters.
Monitor emerging legal and regulatory developments and communicate implications for the organization.
Provide legal support for cross-functional initiatives involving Operations, Commercial, Procurement, Human Resources, and other business units.
Contribute to contract management processes, including development of templates, clause standardization, and implementation of process improvements to enhance operational efficiency.
Maintain accurate legal records, documentation, and corporate governance files in accordance with internal and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications & Requirements:

Education:
Member in good standing with a Canadian provincial Law Society.
Law degree from an accredited institution
Experience:
A minimum of five (5) years of post-call legal experience, with a primary focus on corporate and commercial law
Experience providing legal advice within a regulated industry; aviation experience is considered a strong asset.
Demonstrated experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating complex commercial agreements with minimal supervision.
Experience coordinating and managing external counsel across multiple jurisdictions.
Skills & Abilities:
Strong working knowledge of corporate governance principles, regulatory compliance frameworks, and risk management practices
Ability to interpret legislation and translate legal requirements into clear, practical business guidance.
Demonstrated sound judgment, discretion, and the ability to manage sensitive and confidential matters.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to assess legal risk and recommend effective mitigation strategies.
Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage professionally with executive leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative team environment.
