Role Overview :
The Legal Counsel, India and APAC, will support contract drafting, review, legal research, and counseling for Emeritus’ India, Singapore, and Dubai entities, and for new initiatives globally. This is a remote six (6) month contract position with the potential to extend and / or transition into a permanent position depending on the needs of the company. This role is based in India and reports to the Global General Counsel
Responsibilities :
• Draft, review and negotiate partnership contracts, commercial contracts, marketing and advertising contracts, vendor contracts, and IT contracts for India, APAC and MENA regions.
• Prepare and update form contracts, including collaborating with Emeritus regional counsel, as appropriate.
• Provide guidance on higher education laws and regulations impacting operations in India, APAC, and MENA.
• Train internal clients with respect to contracting processes / practices.
• Collaborate with internal subject matter experts about intercompany transactions.
• Work within an increased volume of activity in business-critical legal matters across diverse types of transactions and territories.
Requirements :
• LLB Degree and enrolled as an Advocate on the rolls of the Bar Council of at least one State.
• 5+ years of demonstrated legal experience in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating complex agreements for various commercial matters based on India, APAC, and MENA laws / regulations.
• Proficiency in English language required.
• Experience as in-house counsel of a global technology or higher education organization is preferred.
• Familiarity with laws impacting higher education is a plus.
• Self-motivated, flexible, and efficient working style.
• Strategic thinking and strong business acumen.
• Quality-oriented with a focus on detail and the ability to identify and resolve issues independently.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; experience interacting with small, close-knit team members and advising business units globally.
Must be available to join the company by January 5, 2025.
