About Our Opportunity

Legislative Pages hold a time-honoured position in the Westminster parliamentary system. Collaboratively working as a nonpartisan member of a team under the direction of House of Assembly Operations, Pages support the day-to-day functions of the Nova Scotia House of Assembly. Pages prepare for daily House sittings and provide a range of services to assist the Speaker, MLAs, Table Officers and legislative divisions to facilitate the smooth operation of the House of Assembly.

Becoming a Legislative Page provides an excellent opportunity to make use of professional communications skills, organizational and hospitality skills, and second language skills. Pages witness MLAs debating, amending, and passing legislation and see first-hand how Nova Scotia’s legislative body works to serve Nova Scotians.

When the House of Assembly is sitting, Pages work both on the floor of the House of Assembly and behind the scenes. As the daily routine unfolds and Legislative Television broadcasts the proceedings on television and on the internet, Pages, working in shifts, undertake a variety of duties including: setting up the House for daily routine; responding to and coordinating requests from the Speaker, MLAs and Table Officers; collecting and distributing documents, messages and supplies within and outside the Legislative Chamber; setting up rooms and providing hospitality through the non-alcoholic beverage service in the Legislative Chamber and committee meetings, and collecting glassware, dishes and cutlery for cleaning, and re-stocking.

When the House is not sitting, Pages set up rooms within the legislature’s building, Province House, for committee meetings and other functions and events. This may include routine duties such as organizing the non-alcoholic beverage service, setting up tables and chairs, and clearing up.

Qualifications and Experience

This may be the right opportunity for you if you are enrolled in high school (Grades 11 and 12 only) or a part-time or full-time student enrolled in post-secondary education program (university, community college, or career college) or are a recent graduate (within 3 years).

While not required, previous experience working in the hospitality sector or customer service is considered an asset. Knowledge of the Nova Scotia Legislature is considered an asset.

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, interview(s), and reference checks

Working Conditions

This is a casual appointment commencing January 28th, 2026, to August 31st, 2026. Successful candidates may be renewed for one additional year of service as a casual employee, for a maximum of two years when all Legislative Pages must exit the program.

Legislative Pages are employed on a casual basis and working in shifts of four hours (occasionally two shifts back-to-back). Legislative Pages must be available to work at least one shift per week from Noon until 4:00pm on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. All Legislative Pages must be able to work a minimum of three shifts per week when the House of Assembly is sitting, generally on weekdays only, in the Spring and Fall, and on an as-needed basis when the House is not sitting the rest of the year. Pages must be able to work flexible hours. House of Assembly Operations will work with you to accommodate your high school or university schedule. Some lifting and carrying of heavy objects are required. Routinely, Legislative Pages stand for long periods, climb stairs and some hours will be spent sitting at a reception desk.
