Our Transportation Department is looking for two dedicated Light Equipment Operators/Maintenance Worker II's to join the team.
Position Responsibilities
The City of Grande Prairie is looking for an individual who has experience working in labor positions. They should be a good team player, and willing to work with various work groups within parks and transportation.
Duties may include but are not limited to :
Performing labor using hands or hand tools, may involve the operation of minor, power or electric equipment, may involve sustained and/ or repeated physical demands, have knowledge of operation and maintenance of parks / transportation equipment, and the ability to work rotating shifts both in summer and winter.
Light Equipment Operator- Operates and is responsible for two or more of the following:
Municipal Tractor with attachments
Skid Steer Tractor with attachments
Tool Cat Tractor with attachments
Toro Mower
Durapatcher
Asphalt Compactor
Single Axle Plow Truck with Sand/Salt spreader
Single Axle Water Truck
Tandem Axle Truck with box to haul snow, gravel, topsoil, branches and other materials. (Requires Class 3 with Air Brake Endorsement)
Aerial Lift or Bucket Truck (<35 feet extension)
Other similar equipment
Other duties as assigned
Transportation Maintenance Worker II
Responsible for the repair, maintenance, installation and removal of the storm sewer system, raking asphalt on the paving crew and other similar duties. The position requires experience and skill in the maintenance, repair and construction of the storm systems and assisting with the maintenance of records. Responsible for accurate record keeping of maintenance activities carried out and other duties as assigned.
Performs labor using hands or generally used hand tools
May involve the sustained operation of minor, power or electronic equipment
May involve sustained and/or repeated heavy physical demand
Knowledge of operation and maintenance of equipment
Required Qualifications:
Requires thorough knowledge of regulations, standards and practices relating to traffic control devices, operation, inspection, installation and maintenance
Ability to work shifts that supply 24/7 coverage
Experience working in a labor type position previously
Ability to work outdoors in all-weather environment as required.
Small hand tools experience
Small equipment experience is considered an asset
Qualifications
Valid Alberta Drivers License.
Ability to work shifts.
Ability to work in an all-weather environment.
Ability to do hard physical labor for sustained periods of time.
Ability to be trained on other Parks and Transportation Equipment.
Knowledge of other Transportation and Parks Crew duties.
Certification in First Aid.
Basic Computer Skills.
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Ability to become skilled at operating other equipment as required.
Class III with Air Endorsement would be preferred.
The Transportation and Parks Departments are a multi-task weather dependent department. The successful candidate may be required to perform other duties as required on a day to day basis. May be required to participate in standby rotation.
Safety footwear is required.
Please note that smoking restrictions are in effect.

The successful candidate may be asked to undergo a physical needs assessment.
Hours
The standard workweek consists of an average of 40 hours, with the specific schedule being determined by the immediate supervisor.
Compensation
Starting salary $36.42 per hour as per the CUPE Collective Agreement.
