Job Description
The contract position is from May 23 to August 31, with up to 25 hours per week in May and June and up to 40 hours per week in July and August based on availability and preference. Evening and weekend availability is required.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Program and Service Administration and Delivery
The Lifeguard & Swim Instructor plans and leads programs and supports services and events as assigned. The Lifeguard & Swim Instructor will prepare long-range and short-range plans for assigned classes and ensure that required supplies and equipment are available.
The Lifeguard & Swim Instructor completes participation & attendance records and weekly and daily checklists as required. The Lifeguard/Swim Instructor will maintain a professional appearance and wear the designated uniform while on duty.
The Lifeguard & Swim Instructor attends team meetings, training sessions and planning sessions as required. The Lifeguard & Swim Instructor performs other duties as assigned by the Program Coordinator (Recreation & Aquatics).
General Maintenance
The Lifeguard & Swim Instructor assists in the maintenance and cleanliness of the pool, public change rooms, staff change rooms, First Aid station and Lifeguard office. The Lifeguard & Swim Instructor maintains a professional appearance and wears the designated uniform while on duty.
Health & Safety
The Lifeguard & Swim Instructor ensures all program equipment and facilities are safe for use and reports known and potential hazards to the management for immediate action. The Lifeguard & Swim Instructor will enforce safety rules and initiate emergency response procedures including First Aid and incident reporting as required.
Customer Experience
The Lifeguard & Swim Instructor is responsible for interaction with program participants and guests. The Lifeguard & Swim Instructor creates an inviting environment by welcoming members and guests, enforcing rules and responding to customer questions and feedback in a timely manner.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
Ability to plan and instruct swim lessons.
Demonstrated interpersonal and diplomacy skills.
Enthusiasm and passion for working with children.
Flexible and highly organized with superior customer service skills.
Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Must be willing and able to provide a valid and current Criminal Background Check for working with the Vulnerable Sector.
Must have current First Aid, CPR and National Lifeguard – Pool certifications, Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor certification is an asset
The ability to work weekend and evening schedules is a requirement.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Physical effort is medium.
There will be long periods of working in water.
There may be extended periods of standing/sitting.
