JOB SUMMARY
Fleet Maintenance & Technical Services is responsible for: scheduled, unscheduled and emergency service; seasonal overhauls; vehicle commissioning/decommissioning; vehicle inspections and certifications; warranty monitoring; shop and specialty tool maintenance/management; maintenance of small equipment and special equipment such as fire, ambulance, ice resurfacing, turf, etc.; repair performance analysis; and Technical Services including specifying, acquiring, leasing and disposing of Municipal Fleet Vehicles.
You are responsible for supervising technicians in assigned city garage(s) who provide planned and unplanned maintenance, service and repair of the City’s diverse fleet of vehicles and equipment. You are also responsible for planning, scheduling and re-scheduling the daily/weekly/monthly work, and conducting business/operational activities, to optimize service life, safety and cost efficiency, align with client priorities, and ensure compliance with legislated/regulatory requirements.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Completion of Automotive Service Technician 310S apprenticeship program of 7220 hours and Truck and Coach Technician 310T apprenticeship program of 6720 hours
Minimum of 8 years of experience in a municipal fleet maintenance or similar environment, including experience in a leadership role.
CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES
Valid Ontario Certificate of Qualification as Truck and Coach Technician 310T and Automotive Service Technician 310S
TSSA Regulated Fuels Safety certificate (natural gas, propane and/or alternate fuel)
Valid Ontario unrestricted DZ class driver’s licence (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated is an asset
KNOWLEDGE
Fleet Services’ policies, procedures, processes and guidelines
Relevant corporate policies
Fleet Management Information Systems
Mechanical knowledge of various automotive, truck and coach systems (e.g. drive train systems; electrical/electronic/emissions systems; suspension, steering and brake systems, occupant safety systems, etc.)
Electronic, hybrid, gas and diesel engines
Electronic transmissions
Full range of specialized light, medium and heavy vehicles and equipment used by City of Ottawa clients
Client-specific operational and business needs
Operation and programming of various specialized diagnostic tools and equipment
Operational procedures for municipal vehicles and equipment
Planning and scheduling techniques relating to fleet maintenance/service/repair
Applicable legislation and regulations
Supervisory techniques
Customer service practices
Collective agreements
Legal ramifications of improper repairs of vehicles and equipment
Must be familiar with all applicable health and safety legislation, have knowledge of any potential or actual danger to health or safety in the work place, and have knowledge of appropriate actions to be taken in order to ensure the health and safety of staff in accordance with applicable legislation and City policies and procedures.
Working knowledge of, and experience in, the City of Ottawa’s Fleet Maintenance operations is an asset

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
Language Requirement: English oral, reading, writing
Driver’s License Requirement: A valid Ontario unrestricted DZ class driver’s license (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated
You may initially be paid 95% of your starting rate of pay, in accordance with the collective agreement.
Experience and formal training combined with demonstrated performance and ability may substitute for stipulated academic requirements.
